VW Engine Rebuild

Post by fvkartguy »

I'm rebuilding a stock 1600cc engine for street use and wasn't sure what kind of balancing would be necessary.
I've built a street engine from new parts and didn't bother with balancing since it wasn't a high performance engine, but this time I'm using some old, used parts, so does that change anything?
Any tips or suggestions?

Get it balanced. It shouldn't cost more than $100. As an opposing 4 cyl. it requres very little work from the balancer. No counter weights and computation required. Just make sure your rods and pistons are balanced to each other. Within about 5 grams is fine for a street under 5K engine. Make sure the balancer does the crank and then full assm. with the clutch housing.
