Re: Glen Results For Sunday's Race
Because the track is owned and operated by NASCAR they have instituted some BS rules that we don't have anywhere else. The SCCA workers are not allowed over the guard rail to assist the drivers only track employee's. Any incidents almost always have a full course yellow even if they wouldn't normall...

Re: Throttle cable
Like Jim says, bycicle sheathing which is nylon inner wrapped in flexable steel and with plastic outer is definatly the way to go but I use 1/16 stainless wire rope (the proper name for good cable) as the cable. I buy it in 50 or 100 foot lenghts and use the tig tourch to melt the ends together when...

Re: Jersey Devil National
For anyone coming to the NE in early summer it would be advisable to have some clothes for cool weather since it is possible to at least have cool nights if not even days, kinda like going to Florida for the winter nationals and expecting it to be hot and that isn't always the case. I just noticed t...

Re: Jersey Devil National
Brian, Stevan is pretty right since June, July can be nice but warm with highs in the 80's but our summer weather with warming in the afternoon can bring thunderstorms. Depending on the weater pattern that develops we could have rain once a week or extended dry spells for weeks. By July it will star...

Re: Jersey Devil National
Brian, define normal. We have had some spells of sumer like weather which is hot and humid already that we wouldn't normally have until July August time frame. Now it is cool or normal temps and low humidity. it seems to be swing back and forth and stays in one mode for maybe a week and then changes...

Jersey Devil National
We were the last race group and with the hot nasty weather afternoon thunder storms were predicted. As we went to the grid with everyone on slicks a slight shower fell from a cloud that passed over and made the track slightly damp but not wet. A 500 spun exiting turn one and another hit it and Shiel...

Re: Short Oil Filter
I use a GM something(don't remeber) 53 that is for Saturn cars and it is short. I also think Greg's # is a equilvalant filter also. I actually went to the auto parts store many years ago and went thorough the filters until I found one that fit.

Re: SoloVee stiff steering
You probably had the king pins rebuilt by a shop that does street cars and shims them tight. You have to tell them up front that you want the spindle to move freely by hand in the carrier when you pick them up or you want them do them over. This happend to me once and whenever you let go of the stee...

Re: Showcase nationals
VIR is in 2 weeks and is a great track. Being a double national and early in the season it might have a good turnout. In case it isn't posted on the SCCA site the July Watkins Glen date is a double national which will probably mean even larger turn out than normal. Beaverun is a nice track as well a...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey
Brian, Basically Stevan repliy is it. Many years ago when I weighted less, it was tempted to take out the ballast just to see if it would make a difference but again that lazy factor came up. I still think that weight is not as important as a good motor or new tires since we are a momentum car where...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey
Being one of the 3 who voted for 1035 I really don't care because I have ballast in my car. Unfortunely the amount keeps getting smaller as the years pass by. Like Greg mentions a higher weight allows a stronger/safer chassis and possibly more toys on the car. Being at minumum weight is just a fanta...

Re: Problem with Carbotech shoes install
Since you appear new to the Carbotech shoes, you might want to know that you don't have to waste track time to bed the shoes and can do it driving around in the pits. Just drive around in first or second and ride the brake pedal for around 10 seconds at a time and let off (don't lock up the wheels) ...

Roger, Don't by anything except an LED light for a rain light. They use hardly an energy and actually work better. For those of you who looked at the picture someone posted showing a car with the Afterburner light, I highly recomend it ( I need to mention I do sell them ) but every time I attend a r...

Re: Head and neck restraints req'd 1/2012
Doug, When I purchased the G Force system according to them it was the only one besides the HANS that passed the sled test. Now I think the test includes a side impact as well and G Force said they wouldn't be able to pass the test and didn't think they could upgrade what they had so they discontinu...

Re: Head and neck restraints req'd 1/2012
It is a shame that the G Force system won't pass the SFI FIA test since it is effective in front end crashes. I have had one for years and like it. I had two frontall crashes this year without any effects. Also the forward braces on my chassis pretty much stop the helmet from moving to far sideways ...

Re: DOM tubing
I am pretty certain that DOM only comes in round tubing. DOM stands for drawn over mandrel and I don't remeber seeing other than round. Check with your local steel suplier and they hopefully will have square and retangular in various sizes. I get those locally in either 16 or 14 guage depending on w...

Re: floor pans
I continuously weld the steel pans to my cars. But I do it in approimatly 1" increments and go from side to side and jump around as I do it. Most cars will have a slight bend in the frame from welding all of the tubes to the top of the frame in the building process so welding on a steel pan wil...

Re: Tires?
I do keep track of heat cycles but like both Mike and Stevan I do Manage tires by using older tires for pratice newer ones for qualifying and the newest or new for races. With Goodyear you should always scrub them in so they last longer. Like Stevan I used the same set at the runoffs for all of the ...

Mark, I think the 1600 option will eventially happen but not right now. I did start work on a FST car and hope to finish it over the winter. If anything else it should sell here in DC area as a street rod. I think a lot of the things the group who brought the FST to life did were good but the vee co...

A freaking Harley engine! Are you nuts? In 2006 I decided to buy a Harley because it is made in America to replace my 20 year old Kawasaki sport bike. Well what a mistake that has become. The 883 sportster I have is a nice bike but it gets crappy fuel milage and the engine sputters/stumbles when acc...

Steven is right about the order of cars you see in his video. Because I did file a protest against Ron because I was a little pissed off after the race, the stewards has a copy of the internet feed on a DVD and did show me that, and they decided that they would consider it a RACING incedent and I ha...

Chris, Turning the ignition off before the master is something I never do except when I come in off the track. When working on the car I always shut the car off with the master switch and never turn off the ignition. I have had a coil go bad but it was a slow process until it got bad enough to cause...
