Re: Steve's Runoff's 2019
Brian, I'd say this year's event pretty much SUCKED for me - 99.9% because of the T1 crash that took my car out of play and is going to cost me an additional chunk of $$$ to repair beyond the $$$ that it cost to register and buy a test day and paddock spot... and, of course the towing costs to get t...

Free play on Clutch Slave Cylinder changing?
Hey guys. Although I've been racing FV for over FORTY YEARS, I've never before used a clutch master/slave setup.. always used a CABLE. Now I have a car with a master/slave setup and after each session the free play is changing. After my first test day, I changed the slave cylinder to a brand new one...

Re: What type of formula car?
Brian, I think you are expecting too much from a car that was raced in 1973. That was before the internet and copious 'interswapping' of ideas via forums and facebook and even pictures. I'd guess that, yes, this is the way the car was raced although I'm not certain that Phillip has indeed proven tha...

Re: What type of formula car?
Looks like you found yourself a nice little piece of HISTORY there, Phillip. If you aren't already aware, there is a site specific to FSV at https://www.formulasupervee.com/ . Perhaps you could find some more input over there. The guy that started that site seems to be really interested and probably...

Re: What type of formula car?
Looks like DRUM brakes on the rear and DISC brakes on the front. However, I still have no idea if that's the way the early FSV's came. THIS one certainly looks like it was put together well though. That's a LOT of rivets on the tub. The 'v' in the rear saddle mount looks to be a bit sharp to me as c...

Re: What type of formula car?
OK.. a little "far away" this time  , but the rear end DOES look like it has a (more or less) 'standard mounting platform' for a Volkswagen flat 4 (or even 6?) engine/trans. I'm thinking (but really don't KNOW) that FSV's used VW 1600 cc engines .. but no idea what carburetors or ...

Re: What type of formula car?
Phillip, Suggest you take a couple of pictures from further away. The ones posted are a bit close and no one can see the overall 'look and feel' of the car. Of course, the 73fsv02 is a pretty good indicator. I have no personal experience with FSV, but many on here do. You might want to also post ove...

Re: R David Jones
R David was very active during my early years with SCCA. I can't remember when I last saw him but it was within the last 2 years and he was still 'hangin' in there'. So sorry to hear of his passing. He was an avid FV racer and avid SCCA guy always pitching in where help was needed and always willing...

Re: My first weekend of 2019 Spec Tire for FV at Sebring
Can you state an opinion based on your Atlanta experiences about disc vs drum brakes? Brian My opinion is still the same. I see NO PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE .... *UNLESS* someone is not 'knowledgeable and capable' about getting drum brakes to work. If a person is just not able to make drums work decent...

Re: 2019 Spec Tire for FV at Sebring & Atlanta
As a follow up - I have now run the Spec Tire for 6 sessions with no noticeable falloff. I can FEEL no difference from last year's tire from the cockpit and have made NO pressure or any other adjustments to the car for the new tire. I put my 6th session on the first set in Saturday's race at Atlanta...

FV Spec Tire rules relaxed .. some
This has just been posted by SCCA in the PRELIMINARY Minutes for March... FV 1. #26284 (Club Racing Board ) FV Allow non-spec tire in Regional competition In GCR section 9.1.1.C.3.D, correct wording as follows: "The following tires are required: The following tires are required in all U.S. Majo...

Re: Speedsport Disc Brake Installation
Laura Hayes ran a full 4 wheel Varacins disc brake setup at Sebring. Seemed she was NOT HAPPY with it, but probably mostly because it just took some "getting used to" and basic setup (bias). I didn't talk to her at the end of the weekend, but there didn't seem to be any real Problems with ...

If you wanted a link to open "in a controllable way", use RIGHT CLICK on the link and it will give you options. However, I did just modify the code so that the default is to open in a separate window instead of overwriting the one you're on.

Re: FV Intake Manifold Measurements 2018
Didn't mean to imply that .. just that manifold DQ can happen and why test it if there's no need? Honestly, I don't KNOW why the 2 manifolds were DQ'd. I wasn't there and I haven't specifically asked either of the racers involved. If their case was anything like mine, it's quite possible that even T...

Re: FV Intake Manifold Measurements 2018
The interpretation that I made says NO. The rules specifically state Manifolds may have a thin, transparent or translucent coating of rust proofing material applied. Discoloration or darkening of the manifold itself from heating or aging, or yellowing of coatings with aging, is allowed. Other than t...

Anyone using disc brakes yet? Brian Yes. Laura Hayes in Allan Adderley's Caracal with a new full 4 wheel installation of Varacins disc brakes. She started off with significant issues with bias, but made good progress in each session. Don't know much more. She finished 3rd in the Sat race with a bri...

My first weekend of 2019 Spec Tire for FV at Sebring
For general information.... From the cockpit, I was unable to FEEL any difference at all in the tires. In the first Q session on Friday, my best time was right in line with my best time from the same session last year .. with similar weather and also in line with the first session (practice) where I...

Just got home last night. So.. 1). The TOW was INCREDIBLY L O N G - of course we knew that going in. 2). The track was incredibly difficult to learn - I knew it would be difficult, but it was a LOT tougher than I expected. Has to be the most difficult track I've ever driven in my 40+ years of racing...

Re: 55th Brundage Cup
Thanks all. Not really much to tell.... We had a spirited battle at the front for the entire race. First a 4 car battle between Mitchell Ferguson, Laura Hayes, Donnie Isley and myself. We split off from the second pack by the second lap, then Donnie gradually fell off the pace, leaving the 3 of us i...
