I recently had a case line bored and thrust cut. The shop that did the work sold me the main bearings (steel backed, mfg unknown). The bearings have the 2nd main (steel backed) grooved on the outside diameter. CIP sells main beraings that are grooved outside and others (KS) that are grooved on the inside. Their websie states both types are for 1200 to 1600 engines. Are bearings grooved on the outside ok for a 1200 crank?

thanks, don

Don:

the K/S or any other main bearings with the center groove( inside) will work just fine.
Glyco and Metal Leve had the outside groove and they worked fine too.
Either way you should be OK.

You were lucky to get steel backed bearings as K/S no longer makes them - neither does Mahle.

Just stay away from the NEW K/S bearings.
