GoPro sells a roll bar mount: http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/roll-bar-mount/

Haven't used it so not sure how good it is.. I seem to remember other companies selling roll bar mounts to work with GoPro's as well, I'll let you know if I find anything else!

I don't like the roll bar system for an open wheeled car so I made a small piece of aluminum that I hose clamped to the roll bar that had room for a piece of velcro and then I put the other piece of velcro on the back of the camera. When you attach the camera to the roll bar then take a zip tie and go around the camera and roll bar and tighten with pliers to get it tight. You loose a zip tie every time but it never came off! I have a Hero HD and it is great except you must start it before you get in the car or have someone else start it for you. If you get the 32G card from GoPro you can record longer than the battery will last. An 8G card will last around an hour.

I believe a secondary safety strap is required for all cameras mounted outside the bodywork to prevent cameras from being dropped on the race course. I don't have access to my 2012 GCR.

2 Pickup points needed if the camera weighs over 8oz. (not so with the Go-Pro) Straps not "required".

9.3.12. CAMERA MOUNTS
The mounts for video / photographic cameras shall be of a safe and secure
design. The body of the camera or recording unit that weighs more
than 8 oz shall be secured at a minimum of 2 points on different sides
of the camera body, neither of the attachments may be elastic or plastic.
If a tether is used to restrain the camera, the tether length shall be
limited so that the camera can not contact the driver. Helmet mounted
cameras are prohibited regardless of size, weight, or location of camera
on the helmet.
