Class is in session

Post by VDF1 »

Here is some very fine video of Jackie Stewart telling a guy over breakfast how to get around Monte Carlo fast. Listen to this guy, he knew what he was talking about, didn't he?

Mixed emotions. Having driven Monaco in a street car during off season, I frankly don't see how the race there. OTOH, Sir Jackie declared Roebling Road the most dangerous track he'd ever seen. Makes you wonder how many he's seen.............

I'm sure he's seen plenty of tracks. Don't forget, back in the day fatalities were painfully common. Jackie Stewart was one of the first drivers to push for more safety. After watching a couple of fellow drivers perish from a lack of competent medical attention at the track, he began bringing his own doctor to the races. In his book FASTER, he discusses safety quite a bit.

Every driver deals with the inherent danger of our sport in their own way. Some have chosen the cavailer belief that it can't happen to them, or simply ignor the possibillty. Others try their best to mitigate the probabilities with better car and track design.
