VDO tach problem

Post by kpkehoe »

My tach has bitten the dust. Is it worth opening it up? I got a quote of $230 to troubleshoot it today from a local speedo shop. A new one is around $120-130. Anyone have a used one?

TIA

VDO tachs are notorious for losing their dampening allowing the needle to waver at higher rpms.If this is your problem,I have sent several to VDO for repair and haven't been charged. They were very cooperative and quick.

Motor Meter makes a mini tach that sells for under $50. Like most things today, it's not worth spending money repairing stuff.

I have a used Elliot I would sell for $50+ freight. Used in many Van Diemen's.
