Cooling fan output

Post by hardingfv32-1 »

Has anyone ever seen an estimate of the CFM numbers for a stock cooling fan at say 4000 rpm?

This might help. I haven't read it over, so take it for what it's worth. But if it's on the Internet, it must be fact.

Great article Jim, thanks for pointing us to it. Now I know why a bigger fan on the dyno didn''t make that much difference on the head temps.

Brian,
The CFM numbers @ engines speeds are in the older VW "Without Guesswork" books that were issued to VW tech in the service shops, 1958-forward in my case.
I still have most of mine and if you need the exact numbers I'll dig them out and get the numbers to you.
Might take a while to unearth them but if you need the numbers let me know.

Brian:
According to a Haynes manual, the fan has an output of 19 cu. ft per SECOND at 3800rpm

Hope that helps.
