They don't leave your OUTBOX until the receiver actually READS them. This forum has a problem that has never been fixed .. i.e. the receiver does not get ANY notification that a PM is available other than a (very unobtrusive) message at the upper left upon login that says "x new messages" (usually ZERO, but sometimes NOT). If they don't see that message and retrieve it, it stays in your inbox ... forever.
