Carbon fiber monocoque chassis

Post by jstoezel »

Hi:

I was looking for pictures of H-beams and stumbled into this:

Apart from the use of a carbon fiber monocoque, there's interesting solutions for the front and rear suspensions.

At least, I found it to be interesting to read.

That thing was amazingly cool, especially with the BMW engine, up until he chopped one of the rear wheels off!

I raced against this car in 2001. It’s a TTM- Veetech.

They clearly had a few teething troubles as it only ran mid-pack in its first couple of races and was withdrawn. It reappeared later in the season and blew us all away.

Three carbon-fibre chassis were produced. One made it to the track; the others were up for sale at £10,000 each, for just the monocoque alone.

The UK governing body felt that this was not the direction they wanted FV to go and banned carbon-fibre monocoques for following seasons with exception of current cars.

However, the original chassis was written off in a wreck in the final race of ’01 and as neither of the other chassis made it to the track that year, the story as far as FV is concerned, ended there; although I’ve seen the other chassis up for sale several times since then.

Guy.
