front shock length question

Post by tiagosantos »

Hey guys - I store my car away from home and I won't be able to get to it anytime soon to measure this up - could anyone tell me the ideal front shock length? I don't know how people usually list these things - a shock listed at 7" means it's 7" end to end fully compressed? How much travel do we need on a Vee? :)

Thanks in advance for your help!

With the ideal ride height with the turkey legs parrallel to the ground, the front shock is 12" eye to eye. What the full extension is depends on whether you run droop stops in the shock. My front shocks are limited to 13.5 at droop and limited to compression to 10".

Tiago,

Here are two more examples to add to Brian's...
Fully Compressed: 9 7/8
Fully Extended: 13 7/8

Fully Compressed: 9 7/8
Fully Extended: 12 1/8

These are two pairs of the same shocks (Black Penske's). The second one has droop stops and won't work in some cars.
