Vee Roll Call

Post by Vernon Maxey »

Alright, how many of you all out there would come to Nationals if we had our own Class? There were only three of us that showed up for the event. Is it be cause of the expense of traveling to and from the event or is it because you know you are not going to be competitive? I know there other reasons but, If we could get enough of you Vee guys to sign a petition to the powers that be to have our own class it might persuade them to at leased think about it, or would I be dreaming? Please, the roll call starts NOW.

The SEB that denied you a separate class a few years ago is just about gone. New guys sit on that board now. With only a few of your numbers attending this year's National, it doesn't show much for a future class. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that you shouldn't try. I would gather your forces and try again for a class but I would suggest trying to be inventive in your approach, i.e. how you structure the request. Further, it is not just about attending one National, its about doing it consistently over the years to maintain the class. If you get the support from your group to do that, you have a better chance and will give your cause a future.

Something else to consider is the possibility of the MC engine being approved for F Mod 500s in 2012. The parity issue will become even more problematic then it is now if that happens. Maybe that will make things harder for you or you may be able to turn that into a positive. As I said, your approach should be inventive.

Do you mean something like putting street tires on Solo Vees and trying for a new STV class???

My idea of indexing F-Mod based on the formula under which a car was built went over like a lead balloon when I proposed it last year, and bringing motorcycle-powered cars into the class will just add another car formula to the mix when trying to level the playing field. Indexing is the cheapest road to parity, since nobody has to invest in car prep other than a sharp pencil to figure out their indexed times at each event.

In all seriousness, I would love to see someone with a well-sorted Solo Vee chassis show up at a test event with a 200 HP engine, to see if throwing all the horsepower in the world on a Vee chassis could make it competitive against an F500. Anyone know of a VW shop that will lend out a killer engine for a few days?????

Sign me up. I would make every effort to be there. Now I would like to offer a few of my thoughts. Even if we could get 200 hp out of our engines, I am not sure we would be competitive wouth the F500' s They will always have the advantage of no shifting and a lot less weight. I am in agreement that we should petition the SEB for our own class VMOD. Another alternative would be to reclassifiy us to CM with the Formula Fords. With a little tweeking of the rules we would have a better chance of being competitive with them.
Last thought for now. If it would be possible, have a Solo Vee meet next year. Hopefully this would promote our cars and if enough people showed up it would make it easier to convince the SEB to make a change.

Arthur,

I said "inventive". I didn't say to rehash old ideas that are doomed to fail  . \

Solo Vees have been given the chance to enter the 21st century to make them more comparable to current formula car genres. Some have taken up that challenge, maybe kicking and screaming, but nevertheless they have improved their cars. I applaud them. But where are the rest of the Solo Vee population? They took their collective ball and went home! That will really helps the cause, .....doesn't it?

Use what you have been given, try to improve on your cars further and come up with a proposal that will get the attention of the SEB as reasonable, realistic and mostly, doable. If you give up, nothing will ever come of your frustration and you will only be an asterisk in a future rule book. Think about it, organize and move forward.
