FYI - we only had FIVE laps at speed today. One of the Hannum's (I think, Billy) hit the wall coming onto the front straight at the end of what I think was his first lap - bringing out 3 laps of FCY to move his car out of harms way. Only other contact I know of was between Dan Grace and myself at madness. He hit the curb too hard in front of me and bounced hard right - I dove left (inside) to avoid what I was thought was certain to be a spin... however, he caught it and came back left just about the time I got there. We had light wheel to wheel contact and both drove on, each spending a few moments in the grass. After the session, he left the track before I could catch him, but his car looked OK to me in his paddock. I lost a front hub cap and that's all I know of .. so far. It was on the LAST lap, so no more laps to tell for sure.
Secondary note.. Laura Hayes is driving Mitch Ferguson's car. Mitch didn't qualify to come, so he offered his car to Laura. Apparently, all the T's & I's were not taken care of, so Mitch's name shows where Laura's should be on the Q results referenced by Barry.
BTW... the weather was great all day (too hot though) and is expected to remain this way at least through Friday.

Hi Stevan,

Thanks for the news. Our club seems to be short on providing anything other than the results as far as I can tell. I did not know there were only 5 laps at speed.
Hope you can find time to post up at the end of the day, and
Good luck tomorrow!

Barry

Better day today from the FCY standpoint, but the FP group before us splattered OIL from the entrance to the carousel all the way THROUGH T1 exit. The workers did a great job of trying to clean it up, but the dust from the oil dry was quite heavy for the first 3 laps. Tough to even see where we were going on the front straight - much less go diving into T1 at full speed. Nevertheless, quite a few drivers went FASTER today than yesterday.. I guess it's fortunate for me that all but ONE of them was already ahead of me. I dropped one spot, but the car seemed a bit better in some respect, a bit worse in others. Made several more changes today and still have hope for better results tomorrow. Had one GREAT lap going today, but MO staff has decided to do 'hot pulls' .. even where there is NO REASON for it. Jeff Loughead caught ON FIRE coming out of T2 on Lap 1 .. took a bit of time to get a fire extinguisher to the site and get it put out, but he was then quite safe in between the T1-T2 uphill and the T2 - T3/4 downhill runs. Still .. about 4 laps later, MO decided that they MUST tow him all the way around the track back to the pits DURING the session... thereby putting Jeff, his car, and the towing HUMONGOUS PICKUP TRUCK *RIGHT* at the top of madness when I came through on what might have been my best lap.

John Petillo was off to driver's left at T10 on lap 1 for unknown reasons. They also flat towed him back to the pits HOT, went all that needed to be done was to MOVE him 100 yards to the left OFF THE TRACK to a safe place. No other incidents that I know of .. however it was even HOTTER today. My data system said it was 102 degrees from beginning to end of our session .. which had been delayed by some almost 30 minutes due to an earlier impact into the T9 wall and the oil cleanup just before we went out. We started out just about noon.

Oh.. and LUNCH was the next session after ours... so even LESS justification for towing Jeff & John's cars all the way around the track back to the pits for NO REASON during the session.

Well.. no big lap for me, but for some others. I dropped 4 more spots today, while going about the same speed. I seem to be the 'go to' guy for the good draft. I can PROVIDE them just fine, but can't seem to get one back that turns out OK. Every time I get one, I lose it to 'some other issue'. Oh well.. the engine I've been running all week bit the dust today, so we've 'backed up' to "old reliable" after today's session. Hopefully, our one last shot tomorrow will produce some decent results. In addition, I'm all out of tires. AMAZING that, in only 3 sessions, I have taken a BRAND NEW SET and reduced them to TRASH. This track, at these temps ( a mere 90 degrees today) is just a BEAST on tires. I've NEVER worn out tires this fast on any track in the last 10 years!

Barry has already provided the results from today (thanks Barry). I have only to add a couple of issues... Brian Farnham blew his engine about 3 laps into the session, Jonathan Weisheit spun on his own on about lap 2 and avoided contact with anyone, and Dan Grace spun in T1 in front of about 6 cars (one of which was ME) and all avoided contact.
Soo... no significant disasters today, but no more 'joy' from my paddock either. ONE MORE TRY .. tomorrow before the big day.

OH.. and one more thing... Brian McCarthy is in the hospital - possibly for the last time. He has stage 3 pancreatic cancer and is not expected to see the next Runoffs. Brian has contributed substantial benefit for the FV community over the last 40 years - including quite a number of years on the CRB and BOD boards of SCCA. If anyone would like more info, or to send a note, contact Stephen Saslow - an active member of this forum (smsazzy).

Wow! The young kids are finally starting to take over. I managed to go a little faster today but nothing compared to the 'children' :-).

I'm very sad to hear this news about Brian. In 2013 when I was flagging turns and trying to decide which class I wanted to run as a novice, I spent a day with Brian (and Stephen as well as a couple of vintage FV guys) and Brian answered all my newbie questions, providing a lot of guidance and insight on a direction for my novice year in 2014.

His advice and guidance was spot on, he connected me with Dave Schrady from whom I bought my first FV. I've followed Brian's posts on this forum and found him to be well-reasoned, rational and a lot of his posts are very informative to the new FV racer. Just search on his name to find lots of great set up info and advice.

Brian is the kind of guy that volunteers his time to support the class, has extensive knowledge of the technical details of FV setup, building, etc. and I respect his views on the future of FV as well.

The class will be saddened if the prognosis is so dim. I, for one, will miss his guidance and support of our great racing class. I'm sure others join me in our respect for this great man.

I am sad to report that Brian McCarthy died last night. Most of you know that Brian was a tremendous asset to the FV Community as well as SCCA. In addition to serving on the FV Ad Hoc Committee, Brian also served on the CRB and the BOD.

His presence will truly be missed.

Formula Vee has lost another icon. Brian's extensive knowledge and willingness to share it will be missed as will his often sardonic wit. As Steve has stated, Brian was a doer, participating actively in FV and SCCA for many years. One of his last big pushes as BOD member was to help us get the FV Ad Hoc Committee elevated to official SCCA status. My thanks to him for that and for the many, many other things he's done for the class over the years.
