Nelson Golden Harvest and Glen Last Chance Updates

Post by gdavis »

Just wanted to update everyone on developments surrounding the Golden Harvest (Nelson Ledges 9/28,29) and the Last Chance (Watkins Glen (Oct. 5/6).

At the Golden Harvest we are planning on paddocking by the trees over by turn 1 and will have Autumn Challenge Cup Series T-shirts and stickers available to all new entrants. Also, we are planning on a fire and beer and beverages after the pot luck dinner for all Vee entants and friends at the same location – just look for the Challenge Cup banner.

In an added development concerning the Last Chance event, Rick Hughey, a native of the Glen area and long- time SCCA member who drives an early Formcar in vintage racing, has graciously agreed to pilot his historic racer and be the honorary pace car for the field for the start of our F- Vee’ only, 50th Anniversary race on Sunday. The organizers of the Challenge Cup would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation to Rick for his enthusiastic co-operation and for the use of his valuable and historic F-Vee in making this opportunity to honor the heritage of Formula Vee into a reality for our event.

In other developments concerning the Last Chance, the Ray and Trina Carmody have generously agreed to host a hot dog, hamburger and mac-salad cook-out for all Vee competitors and friends on Saturday evening at 5:30 pm at their motorhome. Free beer and beverages will also be provided.
For those who don’t know, the Carmody’s are also somewhat of an historic fixture in Vee racing, with Ray’s father Jim racing and preparing Vee’s almost from the inception of the class, and of course Ray has successfully followed in his footsteps. They will be paddocking in the area between the Esses and the Pyramid.

We are also working on some sort of photo-op for the top three finishers (and perhaps the rest of the field) after the finish of Sunday’s race, featured around Rick Hughey’s Formcar.
And as usual we will have free Autumn Challenge Cup T-shirts (courtesy of Rob and Deb DePalma and Complemar Partner’s Inc.) and 2013 series stickers will once again be available at my paddock area (look for the Series banner, I will be in in the same area as where the Carmody’s are paddocked).

In a final note, for anyone who has tried to register for this event and has seen that the initial quote for the Sunday race is $100.00 and then gone to checkout and is being charged $125.00, you will only be charged the extra $25.00 if you run the Sunday race only. Those who run both Sat. and Sun. will be refunded the $25.00.
