Transponder location

Post by Bob Posner »

Any rule as to where the transponder must be located? Will the signal pass through fiberglass ? Thanks

Mine worked fine inside the frame, pointing through a hole - until I got to Pacific - very weak loop there. The hole was cutting the signal cone or some such thing, I tried positioning it closer to the hole, but was erratic. I had to move it - now mounted to the outside of the frame with nutserts - clear view of the track, no problems since.

Otherwise, there is no (SCCA) rule where on the car it should be located.. except for the possibility of spec classes like SRF and FE - which are apparently under discussion by SCCA.

Mine goes through the fiberglass on the bottom of my nose cone. Never had an issue.
