009 Distributor

Post by Don »

Are there any modifications required to using a stock 009 Distributor for FV racing, I have heard of people removing one counter weight spring. Is this a good idea, or can the distributor be used in its stock configuration (given that the timing is set correctly)?

thanks, don

No mods necessary. You just want full advance (~37 deg) above about 2500 RPM. If you don't have full advance by then, you can pull one spring if there are two there.
Not a big deal, but you don't want full advance before 2000 RPM. Under load you will have early ignition and the pistons take a beating. However in a Vee you hopefully won't be at heavy load below 2000 rpm so it isn't a big issue.
