How do I know if my cylinders need to be replaced? Do vertical ridges mean that they are garbage? Can they be honed out or fixed?
This is for a vintage engine - not trying to set land speed records =)

they will need to be measured. The vertical scores are common and can be honed out if there is material left. Dietmar, Quixote Racing, is in your area and can help. I can measure and refinish as well but it will mean some freight to n. cal.
