the incredible shrinking megaphone

Post by jmattox »

110 octane leaded fuel, midrange carb and manifold, autowerks engine, Daytona, EGT reading under 1400@wot @6100 rpm (I think). Exhaust megaphone ended up about 4 inches shorter than it was and appeared "burnt." Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You burnt 4 inches off the exhaust megaphone? !!!!
No way would an EGT of 1400 burn off the exhaust megaphone. When you say "burnt". Black, Brown, Gray ?

Definitely NOT black or brown. Appears gray.

A medium shade of gray would indicate that your EGT's (and mixtures) are close. I have no idea what would have caused your megaphone loss. Just fatigue I would assume. Make sure that the last support is as close to the end of the pipe as you can get it. If it is catileverd out to far the vibrations will break it.
