R45 vs R55 considerations?

Post by halifax »

I'm looking for some feedback on when to use R45 compound tires instead of my usual R55. Is there an air temperature/track temperature limit for the R45s? If that consideration is met, would you use R45 on a track that's considered hard on tires like NHMS? This and any other R45 vs R55 comments sought.
Thanks,
Harry

It's a commbination of temperature and track design and surface. Anything up to about 75 f will work with 45's unless the track surface is coarse and gritty. Really birght sun will raise track temperature when it feels cool. Long sustained turns are hard on 45's as well. Sometimes a 55 on the outside front and 45's on the other 3 corners works as well.

Don't forget to factor in the rumored new Hoosier FV tire.
