Oil Temperature Gauge

Post by Bruster »

I want to replace the old mechanical oil temp gauge in my D13 with an electric one. Have been told that this will compromise my engines performance since I am using battery power to run the gauge.
When I consider that we recharge the battery before every race day and the daily sessions are 3x15 minutes, is this an issue to consider.
Thanx

Not at all. A Vee uses such little power that an oil temp will certainly have no effect.

Stephen is correct. There is absolutely no difference. Also the electric unit is far easier to install and maintain, with no issues of leaks or line running.

The only advantage to the mechanical unit is that they are usually 270 deg sweep scales where the reasonably priced electrical ones are only ~100 deg sweep. (A bit easier to see the difference between 20 and 30 lbs for example, but not really much of an issue.) Having a OP warning lamp is more important than a gauge.
