The start of a project

Starting with identification

Can anyone help me work out that this is, it's very nicely built. Condition is poor but it's a start. I am planning on extensive modification but really wanted to know what I have before I start. I looked for any marking on the chassis but found none. The chassis currently being blasted so hopefully I can find some marking when all the rust is removed.

My guess would be a Lynx B or copy etc...Good luck.

P.S.: Any log books available that might provide a clue?
P.S.S: The main roll hoop may provide SCCA #'s such as region
it was initially raced in etc......

Not a Lynx, maybe Zink?

What is the purpose of restoring this rusted hulk? To save this thing is going to require the same time, money, and skills that one would need to build a new car. This is not going to be a cheap way to get onto a road coarse. If you proceed, first find a FV mentor to help you along.

It is much more Zink-like than Lynx-like.

Reminds me alot of my dad's old Zink Z12, but it's the wrong body and the back half of the frame is all wrong, not to mention at least my dad's Z12 the beam was welded on as part of the chassis itself.

I am fairy sure it's not a Zink, the last owner had a couple of Zink's and they were quite different.

Looks like an interesting project to me! A lot of special machined parts went into it. I hope you can figure out what it is...but if not... just have fun restoring it.

I am pretty sure it is not either a Lynx or a Zink. I have seen a lot of Vees in the last 20 years and don't recall any that looked like this. I would suspect a homebuilt . What part of Chicago are you in? If you are near the SW part of the city there will be 19 Vintage Vees out playing this weekend at Autobahn CC. Stop and say hi ( bring pics, someone might have an idea). Otherwise there are some long time F/Vee racers in Chicago like Butch Deer or Bob Lybarger that might have some insight.

Looks like a homebuilt to me. Iv'e been around FV's since 1963 and don't recognise the one. I live in Elgin,Il so could be resonably cose to you. Don't hesitate to call for any help I can be.

My Dad has a car called a Lilley in his garage that is similar to that one. Although the lower fram rails are different, but I think his is actually a copy of the three originally built cars.

Holy shit! i recognize it now! it's an old formula ford! Actually the same style ford as the Skip Barber cars. I forget the name of said chassis, but that's exactly what it is. The trapezoidal frame and all of the cross bracing tubes match up, even the front motor mount is the same as the Skippy cars! Someone converted this car to FV from FF!
