Setting Rear Camber

Post by hars550 »

I have a 67 AD Vintage Vee that I am finishing up. I am setting the alignment and need to
know the best way to set rear camber. I see by the SR Racing book it is set up by putting a level on the
axle tubes and getting a total negative angle. I have a Porsche 550 Spyder Replica with a swing axle setup and I check camber with a
gauge against the tire. I also have a droop rod on the Vee. What is the best way and how do I set things up??

You mentioned a droop rod, so I am assuming it's zero roll. If not, then disregard. If it is zero roll, here's how I setup my XTC according to the setup manual:

1. Remove shock and reverse the stop on the droop rod so it supports the bellcranks and set your static shock mounting distance. This basically sets the rear ride height.
2. Adjust the suspension pushrods to set negative rear camber.
3. Reinstall the shock, remove the droop rod and adjust the coilover spring perch (ride height) to duplicate the camber settings in step 2.
4. Reinstall the droop rod and set your rebound camber.

I think I was wrong in saying I have a droop rod. I have a Z-bar set-up
with coil spring shocks. I tried to post a pic but am having
problems.

To get a lot of Vintage FV tech tips go to Vintage Vee Racing Home Page at http://www.2belangers.net/vvr/
The Z Bar set is clearly described.

Good luck.
