The FV Ad Hoc Committee was scheduled to meet Dec 28. We were ready, but SCCA was not. The office was closed during the week and the conference call line was not in operation.
Just as an FYI, Bruce is working on specific measurements for pistons based on several old and new sets that he has received in the last few weeks. These measurements will give us a basis for making specific recommendations if and when the need arises so that we are not "caught short".
The Committee did receive several replies to last month's minutes via The Registry. All were in support of assuring the availability of pistons "down the road" . Some suggested that we contact piston manufacturers now. We would like to reiterate that there currently are no specs for VW original or replacement pistons ( that we have been able to find) therefore there is a need to perform some extensive measuring . We can not just approach a piston manufacturer and ask them to make a piston without providing some rather specific dimensions. In addition, having pistons made does not address the issue of replacement barrels.
The Committee is once again opening discussion on replacement parts and future options to not only promote the class but also to maintain the class. We have done this in the past, but it is hoped that with the "new blood" on the Committee, some new ideas might be forthcoming.
