August Meeting

Post by Dietmar »

The Formula Vee Ad Hoc Committee met on August 26.
Members attending: Steve Oseth, Stevan Davis, Bruce Livermore, Dietmar Bauerle

Guest: Fred Clark

New Business: an e-mail was received from a member regarding the frequent practice of grouping FV’s with SRF’s and a request to ban this practice.

The majority of the discussion time was spent addressing this concern .

The practice of grouping classes has been going on for a long time and has always been an issue- more so in some regions than in others. It is the stand of the National office that groupings at each event be left to the discretion of the Race Chairman for that event. Although Spec Racers have been combined with other classes and it has been evident that these grouping can and do work better than grouping FV’s and SRF’s, it is still common to see the latter as the organizer’s first choice. National can make suggestions, but it is left to the region to decide how they will conduct their events.

One of the problems for years is that Sports Racers have been considered Open Wheeled cars and it would be of great benefit for those concerned to write a letter to SCCA stating that there is a need for a reclassification to CLOSED WHEEL and that they run with other CLOSED WHEELED cars. This has been done successfully in some regions in the southeast where competitors have threatened to withdraw or have withdrawn their entries when they found out that they were grouped with SRF’s.

On a positive note, the rewrite of the new GCR is trying to address the issue of combining classes. The Ad Hoc Committee will be formulating a letter to voice our concerns and it behooves anyone else with a strong feeling to do the same. Can not stress strongly enough the fact that this IS a member club and the membership does have a say.

Anyone who has registered on the FV Registry should have received an e-mail by now informing them of the meeting at Road America on Friday, Sept 25 from 4 to 6 pm. If you did not receive this e-mail, it is because either you have not registered or your e-mail address has changed over the last year. (Many e-mails have come back indicating this. Of the 361 e-mails sent out, 25 could not be delivered)

The meeting will be for those interested (associated) with FV only. It will be a time to discuss 4 topics about which SCCA would like to garner some feedback . Of paramount concern is the issue of manifolds, the escalation of costs associated with changes, omissions and/or corrections to the GCR, and where the class is going in the future.

If you do not plan to attend the Runoffs, then an e-mail with your thoughts would be appreciated. Send any and all to: Steve@WedgeRacing.com

Even if you plan to attend, you might consider sending your thoughts ahead of time. 2 hours may seem like a long time...

Old Business:

Nothing new . Be sure to take a stand on the extended sump proposal by writing your letter if you have not already done so.

-Request last month for input from members regarding the future of FV:
