May minutes

Post by Dietmar »

The FV Committee met May 28. Members attending were:
Steve Oseth, Bruce Livermore, Stevan Davis, Mike Kochanski, Dietmar Bauerle

The group addressed the confusion which has occurred at recent SCCA events regarding the 2008 rules that require a frontal crush structure on Formula Cars. After searching the GCR and some discussion regarding our personal correspondence and conversations with SCCA officials, it is the concensus of the FV committee that there is a discrepency in both the original and revised 2008 GCR between section G1, 2, and 3 on page 104/105 and the intention of the BOD regarding FV requirements. This discrepency has led to some confusion on the part of SCCA race officials and competitors. The confusion comes from item G.2 which refers to cars which use the VW H beam front suspension and appears to require the use of the structure defined in the FV rules.

Steve Oseth will be formulating a letter to SCCA to request that Section G.2 be rewritten to clearly exempt FV from section G.1. due to the impact protection afforded by the VW H beam suspension. The current rules (9.1.1.C.3.A.10) in the FV Preparation Rules will be retained.
Also, there is a recommendation to fill the nose with foam. Opinions as to how effective this would be were mixed.

The letter ( April topic) to active SCCA participants has been sent to all those who have registered on the FV Registry to solicit input regarding the future needs of Formula Vee. There are many drivers who have not yet registered, so spread the word that your voice will be heard- if you register.
No other items were presented or discussed.

Next meeting scheduled for June 25
