Re: Front Impact Attenuation

So the next question is, what does 9.1.1.C.3.A.10 say... 10. No structure, item, or component (including the battery) other than bodywork, can protrude further forward than ten (10) inches from the front of the lower axle beam tube. Any item protruding further than eight (8) inches must include a ve...

Beach Mk5B molds

Anyone know who has molds to make a Beach MK 5B body? I checked with Mike Jackson and Nick England. They got me to the guy with 5C molds, but not 5B. Also tried Falcon with no joy.

Re: F1200

Nothing ever comes from these debates because of the inertia of having a 47 year old class. People that are serious enough to run a national schedule or in a strong regional series have an inventory of parts (not to be confused with an "investment" of parts) that they do not want to be obs...

Re: Need a new header

Where are you located and what's your budget? SCCA or vintage? From our sponors with links at the top of the page you can get Roxanne headers from SR Racing and Vee Sport Racing makes very good headers on the east coast. You would probably be looking at a 3-6 week turn around for a custom system, ha...

I'd really like to get rid of this. How about $6000? I can deliver east of the Mississippi before January 10th for fuel costs.

Re: WDCR adopts race lap penalties for 2010

They set a minimum number of cars per group at 18. If less than 18 cars go out for qualifying on Saturday, then the 18 lap race for that group on Sunday is shortened to however many cars qualified - 15 cars get 15 laps, 8 cars get 8 laps.

Try here

It will probably be cheaper in the long run to have Bob Lybarger prep it for you, especially if you are in Chicago.

Re: Tires?

Matt, This isn't going to happen. The people that run nationals don't want this. The reality is that very few national guys actually buy tires every race anyways. They only run enough races to qualify for the Runoffs and in most divisions the entries are so low all they have to do is show up and fin...

Re: Tires?

To me that is the difference between National racing and Regional racing. If you want spec tires, or to be competitive on old tires, go regional racing. I certainly would never claim to speak for Greg Rice (problemchild), but isn't that exactly what he did - sell off a Formula Vee program that had ...

Re: SRF vs VEE

As always, swapping anecdotes on this board will accomplish nothing. If you feel it is an unsafe mix, write the CRB and BOD. Let them know of any races you decided not to pay an entry fee because you felt the group combinations were unsafe and let them know what you feel is the better alternative. A...

Whats your opinion on drivers suit for Vintage. 1. Single layer with under wear 2. Multi layer 3. Multi layer with under wear Does your opinion change if you are driving in August in Florida? I looked thru the SCCA GCR and did not find anything on how old the suit, gloves, shoes etc should be. Is t...

Re: Fire Suit question

There is no scientific relationship between cost and how safety gear will perform. This is not true. You can find Proban suits online for under $100. You can also find Nomex underwear for $40 a set, so for less than $150 you can meet the letter of the GCR. Proban is cotton treated with fire retarda...

Re: Fire Suit question

My point would be that cost to benefit of expensive driver suits and helmets is extremely low. What are the chances (very rare) of actually needing your helmet or drivers suit? Now on top of that you have to have an event that exceeds the capacity of the lower cost helmet or drive suit. I would hav...

Re: Fire Suit question

I'll preface my reply by stating I have been in a burning Formula Vee for 10-15 seconds with the flames blowing on my butt. I was wearing a fairly new 3 layer suit and still got what was basically a "sun burn" on my butt. While fire is always a possibility, I have read that many more peopl...

Regarding the idea of cheap racing, Look into the 24 hrs of LeMons. Budget cap is the only way you'll be able to say your prices will stay significantly down even when competitiveness goes up. (Not to mention the LeMons cap is $500 minus safety requirements, and anybody who buys a helmet and suit c...

Re: cylinder jug air deflectors-use or not?

I spoke to Ed and Dave,... If I put them on top, better flow & higher temps? John, There isn't anything I can add that's better advice than you got from Ed and Dave. I do agree that Ed does a very good job at sealing the duct work. As I noted before, the black body looks great in person, but it...
