Re: April meeting

Just curious.

If we went to the ball joint front end (with disc brakes), is there a setup for the 5 bolt wheels or do we have to change to 4 bolt?

Thanks

Re: April meeting

what happened to the US economy between June of '05 and June of '06 to cause the entry numbers to decrease from that point forward by an average of 50%? From memory, things got crappy with the economy in mid '07 (housing bubble) and late '08 (banking collapse) making things really fun for '09. And ...

I think my post disappeared.

I think Gary Kittel made some mandrils for straightening wheels - don't know if he still does that.

Also, go on Youtube and there are videos of how they straighten aluminum wheels.

Re: weight issue

Almost 60 lbs is a lot, but not as bad as you think. If a top driver added 60 lbs to his car and then ran a fast lap, I would predict less than .75 of a second difference. So if you are not within a second of the fastest drivers - keep working on the weight, but don't neglect driving, engine, tires,...

Re: spindle nut tightening?

It also matters what type of bearing you have. Ball bearings usually run 0 to some preload (smaller contact area and the ability of the bearing to deform. They don't like play as they get flat spots when hit hard). Roller bearings tend to run slight play - if run tight, the larger contact area and h...

Re: rear end dancing under braking

Hehe.. Sure thing Greg. My worry is that I've been trying to drive around these little things ever since I got the car, so I'm not sure I'd recognize the perfect braking condition if I stumbled onto it. But yeah, I guess it should be pretty obvious once it's working right, eh? Thanks for the detail...

Re: rear end dancing under braking

I sometimes run front toe near zero, but never rear. I would set rear at ride height, around 1/16 to 1/8 to start and then check the bump steer. Compensate so that with 1" travel either way you don't go negative. If you mark the nuts as you adjust, you will know (that 6 flats = 1/32 for example...

One of the strangest rules in the SCCA: Is the roll hoop to be made taller than the steering wheel or must the steering wheel be mounted lower than the roll hoop? Once built can you raise the steering wheel? What if your car was build prior to front hoops being required? F1 solves it by having a but...

To everyone, sorry for the late reply - it went dead for a few weeks so I stopped checking it! The tail I have right now is shown on this page: http://pages.cthome.net/czracing/CZRacingFormulaVeeFVHome.htm If someone has one that looks like this: http://www.kwyjibo.com/ispeed/sccaschool98/sss98070.j...

Re: Cooling - Are these scoops any good?

To clarify my remarks: The cylinder deflectors that go under and between the cylinders are to deflect the air around the cylinder for even cooling. The other deflector (if needed) is to keep air from ramming into the bottom of the cylinder and stalling the air flow: http://pages.cthome.net/czracing/...

Here is a site that shows the air deflector (got to scroll down) http://forums.dieselstation.com/lofiversion/index.php?t21787-50.html (Dec 19 2008, 10:44 AM) They are between the cylinders and the pushrod tubes Also, it looks like the wires go in between the block and the scoop, this leaves a space ...

Re: Cooling - Are these scoops any good?

Oops, my reply vanished! First - are the scoops tilting in the picture - they might be lifting enough to allow air to leak out. My Citation has a brace that goes from scoop to scoop to keep this from happening. Are you running the deflectors under the cylinders? On my old Lynx, I put deflectors in f...

Seems a short box at LRP with tall tires might be a decent compromise.
No - no more talls and shorts - just short and a little shorter.....

I've heard that at Limerock, the Vandecar's (aka experienced drivers :), aka not me) can drive it with a short box, leave it in 4th and drive s#E^^G%F&* out of the car and do well. I've never driven NHMS with a long box, so I didn't know how bad the uphill would be. Thanks all Vandecar's theory...

Too many variables.

Front or rear.

Bump or rebound (or both)

Not that it relates directly, but if you are looking for a different take on this subject: http://dviaviation.com/files/38801004.pdf I came across it while looking for pictures of proper pedal angles. In TUNE TO WIN, Carroll Smith warns about having the pedal go over center, but depending on where t...

It seems there is confusion between a Runoffs winning engine and a good National or Regional one. If you are starting out, or even an experienced driver from another class, you don't need the best engine - if you feel you do, then go to one of the top builders. If you want the experience of building...

Chris, What we are considering is the change in the lifting force provided by the spring as the car is jacked due to the jacking forces (total rear camber going from negative towards positive = spring getting longer). ..... Hope that makes sense. Still confused. Take 2 springs 1x 100 lbs per in and...

Re: Static Rear Camber Setting

Still have not done any calculations, but I am still not convinced that the spring is a big player in the jacking. The first job of a spring is to hold the car off the ground. A car that bottoms loses down force into the tires. So the softest spring you can use has to hold the car up and keep from b...
