Re: New HANS device info
About 20 years ago I spent some time on assignment with IBM in the Proprietory rights area, including copyrights, patents and trademarks. Patent law is very complex, and has been modified greatly in the Chemical/Drug and Process/Software patents, but the application for the Hans looks like it's pret...

On the device the patent numbers are 4638510 and 6009566.
The first granted in 1990 (filed 1985) and the 2nd granted in 2001 (filed 1999). Typically they are protected for 17 years from issue.

Re: New HANS device info
I don't know where you get the idea I'm against patent law. And, you are wrong on seatbelts, suits and helmets. Look again at latch mechanisms, materials and design. . I never said you were against patent law. I only stated "if you were" While there are patents on other items, they are no...

Re: New HANS device info
What's disturbing is that SCCA is going to be lulled into a "spec" safety device from ONE manufacturer because of salemanship and outside perception. What's next on the list, Simpson only belts? Arai only helmets? G-Force only suits?..... That turns me off Hans as much as I hate Wal-Mart. ...

Re: New HANS device info
BTW, At the PRI show an important point was made by a demonstrator to me. While the new Econ Hans is heavier, this is of just about zero consequence to us. It isn't a comfort issue. Since the belts pull the unit down on to your shoulders the driver will notice nothing additional. However, the pro ve...

Re: New HANS device info
Hans does protect its dealers, by protecting the margin. Which is nice. I would hate to have to compete in the Wal-Mart environment. (As an example, They sent us all a letter that said if we gave free shipping with a Hans device, we would be removed as resellers.) In regards to the new $695 model an...

Re: Promoting Formula Vee
When you guys get this thing completed into a DVD, we would be happy to promote it on our web site and ship at cost to anyone who wants one. We get probably 4 or 5 emails per week from people who stumble across one of our websites and they ask questions about FV. (These same people often order our b...

The FV engine has a Flywheel designed for a 6volt starter motor. The number of teeth are different. Thus, the gear on the 6V starter motor is different than the 12V. A 12V starter will USUALLY work with the 6V flywheel, but can jam. You also have to change the bushing in the trans housing to do it. ...
