Re: Kevlar Body Construction
Yes I was talking about polyester and vynlester resins not epoxy. If you do a 50/50 mix with those two you could end up with it cathing on fire! I have wanted some to set up quickly and when it did it started smoking in the mixing pot. Although I haven't used epoxy they have pumps that provide the c...

Re: Kevlar Body Construction
First question is do you have a mold? You can use any composit material to make the body but the cost is the reason for most applications. The cheapest stuff is mat which is most likely what yours is made from. Most people use it becuase it is chep and you can get it to fit all shapes but the big pr...

Re: Kevlar Body Construction
As long as you keep the amount of layers down and don't over saturate the cloth with resin you might make it. Yes you can mix different types of materials in the lay up, I do with the side panels on my car since you are required to have two layers of Kevlar in the side. The alternative is obviously ...

Re: Is there a such thing as to fast?
I raced HO cars for about 20 years in the winter with the guys from the local sports car club in HBG. There were four teams with three drivers and the track had four lanes. they ran 100 lap races for a total of 1000 laps. As the cars got faster they ran like those cars do and at the track my brother...

Re: Zink Chassis alignment
Barry, Since it looks like from your pictures that the car is sitting on jack stands if you raise them up to their highest point you can kinda work from under the car. With belly pan still on it will pose a problem getting the center from the frame to the ends of the pan but it is still doable. Meas...

Re: Zink Chassis alignment
Barry, Since you have the car that dissasembled you should check to see if the chassis really is square. What you need to do is find the middle of the chassis at the front and then at the back around the rear roll hoop. Using a straight edge or string line you need to check if the front of the frame...

Bill,
Dean Curtis, Roger and Rick Shields all bought the Simpson hybrid at the runoffs since it was on sale. I don't think any of them tried driving with it at the runoffs. The rep did come down and fit it to them in the car.

Re: Mono shock zero roll for D-13
Greg, I think the zero roll off of my car should fit the D13 but I haven't looked at one for awhile. I did have a home built that was a copy of a Zink Z12 with a D13 zero roll and it was a good car. It now is a hill climb car the last time I heard of it. Even though the D13 was a good handeling car ...

Re: OIL COOLERS
I like Setrab since they have a system where the adapter is a thread in fitting so you must order the type of adapter for your application but that way the cooler is usable for a lot of applications if you choose to change something. Like everyone mentions you must properly locate it firmly so it do...

Mike, not that I know of. Hopefully someone will at least take the lead in trying to organize a get together for the class. It would be a shame to not keep up the tradition started by Bill and Lisa Noble for having a gathering of all competitors of the class at the runoffs.

Re: Bolt on valve covers
Mark did ask the important question about what happens when the bolt on one gets knocked off and takes out the valve train and leaves a broken off stud in the head or worse. Problem is as long as we use these engines it will always be an issue that can happen with the right conditions. Even with my ...

Re: mini lathe & mill
I would stay away from the ENCO or simular mill/drill/laths since I had one and it was OK for some things but the mill table is quite far from the mill head so it was not to good for milling. The used machines can be a problem if they are worn but a used full size lath is better if you have room for...

That is the car I built for Rob Howden for his now defunct formula car Mag. He sold it last year to a guy in the keys in Florida and he sold shortly after that and Greg's coustomer bought. A lot of people besides myself donated parts and time to build the car which was featured in a series of storie...

Re: Squaring up a car - Front and rear toe
It is OK to do the eyball thing if the chassis isn't square to get the car to go somewhat straight but if the chassis was welded up out of square you will have differences in wheel base from side to side. At the Glen last weekend I was helping a new guy trying to get his car aligned and the wheel ba...

Re: Front suspension
Kevin, I haven't noticed you mention the rear toe that you have in the car. If you have made the front end work then if the car is not handling well and you mentioned having to use a lot of steering input it is posible you have the incorrect rear toe in for your tire set up. A quick fix at the track...

I have some 8G cards but also the 32G that you need to get from Go Pro direct. Make sure you get the fast cards and the label should say its recording speed. I think Go Pro recomends 4H or faster or whatever that rating is.

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West
Dan, Build a killer solo vee? Well that means spending as much for a vee just that it is only usable for solo. So I have another $15-20K vehicle that I get to spend $30-40 for an entry to drive the car for maybe 3 minutes and have to spend all day at the event chasing cones so the club doesn't have ...

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West
Just like Bill mentioned there are morons everywhere, then even manage to show up at the runoffs. There are plenty of good drivers who only run regionals due to trave etc. that know how to race. Then there are drivers who will probably never get it about how to race within their class let alone with...
