Re: New FV wannabe looking to crew
Buy Saslow's Womer. At his price you can't get hurt, and you'll have a car that can run in the lead if you can drive it.

Re: Make Weight
I bought one and it has been flawless, spins the starter fast and will last through a 3 day event with no jumper or recharge. Left it on it's charger all winter without a care. Fired up and ran a full test day and a double in March, came home and let it sit for a month and it still starts.

Re: Hoosier tire bead seating?
Aside from the sealing issue,I spoke to a Hoosier engineer a few years ago regarding how old a sticker tire could go and still grip. Response was quite good up to 2 years,ok until three, throw it away after 3. Opinion will vary, but I found that the old stickers literally tell the story - old browned ...

Les Wildgoose developed a bearing lube system in 1983 using sewing machine oil and found that his car speed increased markedly, but only under braking when the light oil soaked his linings.

You should recognize for future reference that the people responding to your inquiry are firstly trying to help you and secondly in the parts business. To take their advice and then buy the suggested part elsewhere may result in your supply of advice diminishing next time.

Re: Brake thought for the month
I agree with Mark. Adjustment on 4 wheels takes 15 minutes tops. With a good brake system including leverage that will lock the wheels at will, the limitation is tire grip not drum brakes. In trying to help those with weak brakes, more often than not the pushrod lengths, bias bar,over-center pedal or a ...

Brian H Admittedly this stuff is arcane to anyone with modern brake experience,BUT managing this obsolete system is a competitive advantage while discs remain out of the equation.

Re: Brake thought for the month
Brian - I rotate each weekend but often have a hard time figuring which shoe to which location based on wear, leading or trailing, etc. Do you have a system,i.e left top shoe to right bottom? Or maybe just inverting on the same side? Get it wrong and you'll have a big wear taper quickly.

Seems ridiculous to conceive of increasing the machined groove to 2.5mm and then spacer it back to 2.0mm. for those of us using the Chinese piston. How is this in the class's best interest?

Re: 1984 June Sprints @ Road America - history
M+H had a big market share until a quality control issue in about 1985 when the a big batch of tires were horrible and people scrambled to find alternatives in a hurry. I remember calling Marvin(the M) who said a window had been left open and a raw batch was affected - anyhow, they never really recov...

As I recall the result was to lower the pushrod that also leveled the stroke from what had been misaligned originally. Tiago has this car and maybe could send you a pic.

Re: High Brake Pedal Pressure
When I had a Caracal with the stock VW pedal cluster I had to change the pedal fulcrum point to decrease the required pressure. Couldn't lock a wheel and it became like power brakes with the change. Added an inch or so to the pedal stroke.

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
The new Goodyear is a great tire. If cost is the driver of a spec tire, both GY and Hoosier should be invited into competition. I've seen no difference in life of either aside from the Hoosier being able to withstand sliding and very aggresive use in an individual session better. This fact points out...

Re: Single brake reservoir to duals on a Protoform P2
I had a line failure on a P2 and the divided reservoir preserved function for the unaffected brakes. I'd use the dedicated small clutch reservior so as to not lose rear brakes in the event of a clutch line or slave failure.
