Re: Extended sump question
A few methods come to mind- -weld (braze)it on -extend the existing pipe with a hose and a hose clamp -insert a pipe inside a hose, clamp the hose to the pickup tube in the case and a second clamp on the insert. -there is also a kit that has a pipe that has an expanded end, is spit and fits over the...

Re: Cracked case
Without seeing the case (and the crack) it is difficult to say. However, from what you describe, this is a normal area to weld on cases that will see enlarged bores ( like 92mm). So, anything is possible. Trash it? Cases are over $450 right now. Burn it? Be careful, they are difficult to put out. Di...

Re: King Pin Replacement
Bob: Since you asked: First I would see if I had stock LINK pin bushings or offset bushings. Insert the link pins and if they point upward, they are offset. If they go through the bushing and are perpendicular, then they are stock. I would consider buying offset bushings from any of the suppliers li...

Re: King Pin Replacement
Bob: Since you plan to replace the bushings I would guess that there is something wrong with what is there now. UNLESS you have access to a reamer for the king pin bushing, you probably should stop right now. Without the reamer, the new pin will not fit the new bushings. And just replacing the pins ...

Re: Aftermarket shock mounting
Matt:
Will assume you mean the front.
The top is easy- drill out the shock tower hole to 1/2"
Bottom- you will have to make ( have made) a sleeve. Only going to be about .015" thick. Some people just mount the shock on the 12mm stud.
Hope this helps

Re: Oil Cooler location
I do not think that the cooler mounted on the roll bar is STOCK- I believe it is aftermarket as the stock cooler mounts to the top of the engine. Before relocating I would check to be sure that the organization that you plan to run with ALLOWS a remote cooler in vintage. Some still require that you ...

Re: What make of vee is this?
For what it is worth, I would say this is a CLONE of an AutoD. The front beam mounts look to be two 1X1's welded together- not something found on the AutoD's. The rear trans support is not there (it is also missing on Chris H's car). AutoD's did not have front motor mounts. The molds look more like ...

That is exactly what it was designed for. The car ran the FV Association series here in S. California and some of the races were on circle tracks.
Glad it came out easily enough.

might I suggest that you take off the manifold and carb, and anything else attached to the engine- oil lines, etc and get them out of the way. Will make it much easier.

Re: Engine Removal...easy question!
Jim: You might want to share what type of car you have as different cars require different techniques to remove the engine. In some cases on Vintage cars, the pulley needs to be removed first or the entire rear structure needs to be removed. Also, not sure what: "one of those lifts" refers...

If you find some square boss heads, look for the number 373 next to the rocker stand boss. Acceptable also are the 371F heads with a round boss, but with the rocker stud attached to the head. The ones to avoid are the 371B heads with the round boss AND removable rocker studs ( which really are bolts...

Re: Front Suspension Beam Needle,Roller Bearings
Bob: Always glad when things wok out. Since I prefer not to powdercoat front beams, I honestly can not tell you what the max temp would be- just that some cars have come through here with inner bushings that flaked apart after the owners had their beams powdercoated. I believe if you point out to th...

Re: Front Suspension Beam Needle,Roller Bearings
Bob: If you are not concerned with the bearings, then an old sway bar or even a leaf from an old set of springs will work- anything to get through the center square and on to the bearing. BUT- notice that BUT is in caps- I know of no one that sells new bearings. I have used ones, but ( small but) wh...

Re: Front Suspension Beam Needle,Roller Bearings
Yes, there is a special puller (which most do not have), so it is time to be creative. If you do NOT plan to reuse the bearings, driving them out from the opposite end is easy. If you plan to reuse them, here is what I suggest. Get a flat piece of rectangular steel the size of the o.d. of the bearin...

Re: Sachs clutch holder clips
In addition to packaging ( as Jim said) the clips also lessen the chances of warping the pressure plate when installing. Not a bad idea to reinstall the clips when REMOVING the pressure plate ( if you kept them out of the bell housing). New three finger PP's are still available out west- price tag i...
