Re: FART Third Annual FV Invitational Race
For those that care about those things, I suspect the track will be faster this year with a couple of changes and improvements I have a feeling 1:18's will be more common and there might be a couple cars in the 1:17's. If Dennis comes back again, who knows where the record will end up!

Re: Rear axle seal installation, wheel cylinders, etc
Hey Barry, I think the main reason they shouldn't be on the bottom is it makes it harder to bleed properly, as air tends to go up.. But yeah, they were on the top, since I had to rotate the axle tube, they moved to the bottom - so I'm rotating the backing plate to move them back to the top :) Thanks...

Re: Rear axle seal installation, wheel cylinders, etc
Thanks Steve :) I replaced one side cause it was damaged and leaking, and since I had to rotate the backing plate 180deg on the other side as well*, I figured I might as well do it. If these work and don't leak, I'll hopefully never touch them again! *bought the transaxle from someone else, the flan...

Re: Rear axle seal installation, wheel cylinders, etc
Thanks Jim. I've picked up a couple of new seals and will try again tonight.. I don't have a press, but I'll rig something up and keep the mallet away from this thing

Rear axle seal installation, wheel cylinders, etc
Howdy :) Long story, but I had to flip my backing plates around on the axle tubes. I took the opportunity to replace the seals and gaskets on the bearing retainer (one side was damaged anyway). First question: on the first bearing retainer, the new seal went in pretty easily - a press fit, but went ...

Re: Polishing and REM treatments for Trannies
Isn't there a rule about not removing metal or something like that?
I'm sure a lot of stuff gets done to our cars that are not specified in the rules and probably shouldn't be done, but..

Re: Mounting GoPro
GoPro sells a roll bar mount: http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/roll-bar-mount/
Haven't used it so not sure how good it is.. I seem to remember other companies selling roll bar mounts to work with GoPro's as well, I'll let you know if I find anything else!

That's the one I think it was on sale when I bought it, but I haven't used it yet.. Looks good on the shelf! I'll see if I get around to using it tonight to bend the arm.

Re: Clutch cable release arm
Haha.. Yeah, I figured that much. I bought the fancy "yellow" super hot sissy torch from home depot.
After bending this thing, do I leave it out to air cool, dump it in sand to cool slower, or water to harden it?

Re: Clutch cable release arm
That's a good idea, but I'll try bending first just cause, unlike welding, it's something I should be able to do.. The arm on my old tranny was bent and I've seen a few other bent ones, so I guess it works.
I really need to learn how to weld properly!

Re: Clutch cable release arm
Yeah, I need to bend mine about 90 degrees. If aluminum worked, I'd make one from scratch for the hell of it, but if it's steel, I'll just bend it
Thanks!
Thanks!

Anyone know what these are made of? Are they aluminum?
Are there rules about having to run a stock arm, or can I make one up?

Re: FV in California
I was gonna say you should look into the crime and murder rates, but you're in Winnipeg.. They're probably better in California! :P edit: Even if I don't think I'd want to live in the US for a variety of reasons, I can't think of a better place to race.. So many awesome tracks, the fields are good, ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
Like we said, it depends on the track, but they're significantly slower than either the R45's or R55's. At our local track, I'd say they're close to 2 seconds slower than the R55's. I don't think there's any track where given similar cars and equal talent, anyone could be remotely competitive with t...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
Mark, the AR's are slower than the hoosier/GY by quite a bit. Depending on the track, it can be well over a second slower. They do last a long time and are pretty consistent. If we could get American Racer to fix the damn leaking, I'd totally be up for using those as a spec tire. To be perfectly hon...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
designed to last 12-15 heat cycles with very little grip degradation. No, that's not the R55. Yes, the rubber lasts.. But 12 heat cycle R55's are not competitive anywhere, unless everyone else is running old tires. Again, the grip degradation needs to be measured in tenths, not seconds. The only wa...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
I have a buddy that works for F1, they also run a spec tire, you know how much those cost? Squazillions of dollars!.. Sorry, that's just not relevant.. Different classes have spec tires for different reasons. Most just want to make sure everyone runs the same tire, for competitive reasons. Although ...

Re: Spec Tire Survey Results
As for the compounds.. I assume the Hoosier numbering system has into account not just the compound, but the size and width of the tire.. A wider tire with the exact same rubber will have a shorter (but wider) contact patch, so the rubber cools itself a bit better, bla bla bla bla. So that may accou...

The survey was emailed to everyone on the FV registry, right? We definitely don't have 250 people posting neither here nor on apexspeed, so hopefully it reached some of those.
