Re: A Mono Shock rotary damper system...
The Gaspar had something like that. To my knowledge only 2 were built and Gene Grimes had one - and he converted the rear to a D-13 type setup. If he is lurking he can fill us in. The other car is/was owned by Wayne Boyd of RI and last I knew was still in the original form. I have not seen the car o...

Re: Transmission
When was the last time that you had the clutch assembly apart? If it has been sometime, the pressure plate and disc may have rusted together. I had this happen earlier this year; I just drove the car around the paddock until the disc broke loose. It has been perfectly okay since. This is a good pos...

Re: Official FV Discussion: SCCA Runoffs 2010
With the VERY uncooperative egos of SOME of the 2-10 qualifiers, it is very unlikely there will be more than a one car lead pack. Varicins will pull a small lead going into 5 for the first time and panic will ensue with the second group. All hope of cooperation goes out the window at that time. Eve...

Re: on ebay
Why do all these weird cars show up in Florida?
Looks like a FF that was clipped and a FV rear end added. (maybe a Zink?)
Body work looks like from several cars. Might not be too bad as a regional car with some decent bodywork.
Certainly has side protection.

Re: Glen Results For Sunday's Race
22 cars is great for a national. We had 15 at Gingerman on the same weekend, which I also thought was fantastic. If the entry list is to be believed, there were 20+ cars at New Hampshire (Regional) the same weekend. So 2 races in the same division (8 hours apart?) drawing 40+ cars is not bad. Anyon...

Re: Anyone know what this is?
Roger, What ever it is/was, here is the reality. Without any documented history, log book or roll bar number to reference, you've got something of very low value (value meaning what someone would pay for it). To put it together to SCCA racing specs will cost a small fortune. A guess would be $10k i...

Okay,
The zero-roll monoshock looks like it came from a Gaspar, although the body reminds me of a Predator.
The brake system looks like a Citation, but other cars adapted it.
Looks like an interesting car - any other ideas?

Re: Soft Suspensions
I have a 5K in the morning so here is a quick reply: In the rain all forces are less - less acceleration, less braking, less cornering. In a proper race car, the suspension geometry is set up for maximum cornering in the dry. Since there are less forces, you soften the suspension to get the same geo...

Re: Soft Suspensions
I'm am sure it is very relevant. Vees have camber, CG height, and tire compliance just like any other race car. Re: Soft Suspensions
Brian, I know you want to quantify something that might be unquantifyable. In NASCAR, Indy Car and F1, drivers on the same team might have vastly different setups. You would think on this level there should be no difference. So to finish my contribution for now, here is a link to a F1 similar discus...

This was posted in another forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgSiK_VarK8 If you listen to the part about the being on and off the power upsetting the car, the softer sprung car is a little more tolerant of driver inputs. Yes a stiffer car should be faster, up to the point where the stiffness int...

Re: Adjustable droop
I will throw some more confusion into this. Since we run a zero roll the inside tire is working against jacking. We don't have the same weight transfer as a dual shock, normal suspension. Not only that, but we have a much lower center of gravity. Then look at how some cars (Caracal, D-13, etc,) feed...

A few years ago, I played with the lenght of the pushrods on my car. Ended up with about -4.5 degrees static and -2.5 in droop (forgot to check the droop - ). The car was diabolical, especially at a bumpy track like Lime Rock. Probably would not have been so bad at a track like New Hampshire. ...

After reviewing pictures of my car in a turn, I realize that my car in NOT getting on the droop stop in the rear. Re: Minimum Weight Survey
Vote - 130 Since we are going to add a HANs type device soon, I think going up 5 lbs would be acceptable. For those who say it is too hard to add weight, most people are running light on fuel for Regionals, they could add 5 lbs easy with another gallon of fuel. For Nationals that might be another st...
