Re: Glen Results For Sunday's Race

How big was the event overall? Here in Cendiv, both double nationals have had huge attendance, although not a ton of FVs. On the other hand, our local regionals seem to be down compared to last year. It will be interesting to see how Runoffs entries compare to last year. If I had to guess right now,...

Re: FasTrack FV Final Manifold Rules Proposal

I could see having a maximum volume as an ADDITIONAL check, but not as a substitute for maximum external dimensions as proposed, as having that alone would open the door to clever and expensive development of alternately shaped tubing. The analogy to a cylinder head port is exactly why you would not...

Re: Speedsport / Citation Spring Adjuster

No photo, but i have seen the adjusters on Citations with the spring moved to the upper beam and the sway bar in the lower, opposite of the way they are usually set up. You could also do a split spring pack with a pair of adjusters to set each side independently. Then you keep the spring in the lowe...

Re: June Sprints/Lowest entry since 1963

You really do get nickeled and dimed at the Sprints compared to a regular National, and the schedule just piles it on. For example, it cost me $499 to enter the double National at RA a few weeks ago. To register for the Sprints was $360, plus I got hit with a $40 late fee for entering "late&quo...

Re: June Sprints/Lowest entry since 1963

Entries are still dribbling in, but overall the entries for the Sprints this year look to be down considerably this year. Last year there were over 525, so far this year less than 400 with a week to go. Maybe it has something to do with the change to the Runoffs qualifications.

Re: Clutch lever

If you can get the lever off, it's not too hard to cut and weld. I just had to do this for the long box swap on my CItation XTC, which has a vertically mounted clutch slave. The lever is modified to about a 90-degree angle and it would be hard to bend it that far. But it is forged steel, so you shou...

Re: Transaxle side gear snap rings

Well, I knew it shouldn't have been that hard. My new transaxle came with the wrong size snap rings. After about 10 more tries, I decided that it was worth taking my short-box apart to preserve my sanity, and sure enough, the clips from that one were about 1/8 inch smaller than the ones I got with t...

Re: Transaxle side gear snap rings

I will check for burrs. The thrust washer is definitely seated because I can see and feel the groove with a pick. I also tried to install the ring with the gear out of the trans to figure out what the problem was, but I still couldn't get the ring compressed enough (with both open ends butted togeth...

Transaxle side gear snap rings

Building a new Long box, and after about an hour of cussing and tool throwing trying to get the axle retaining snap rings back into the bores in the side gears, I'm desperate for any tips or tricks on how to do this. I was expecting it to be about a 30 second job, but I can't get the snap rings to c...

The Committee is torn on this issue. We can not reach a consensus. We do not think a 25 pound increase is what is best for the class at this time without a serious evaluation of the safety issues involved. Our recommendation to the CRB will be as such. I would just like to point out that 25 pounds ...

Re: Unleaded Gas

With the cost of replacment fuel cells approaching the cost of an engine rebuild, like Brian said, I'd be more concerned about ruining a fuel cell, which pump gas definitely can do. On the other hand, it won't blow up your engine, even if it doesn't pass tech.

Re: Front steering tie rod replacement

Not much to add other than if you're careful and have a steady hand, you can drill and tap the tubing with a hand drill and a tap. Clamp the tubing in a vice and drill up to the size you need for the tap. Getting the tap started straight is usually the hardest part, but it's not a disaster if you ar...

You also have to take into consideration the inherent spring rate of the tire when making that comparison. An FF tire for example, has a lot more sidewall height than a FV tire.

It's not completely over, but a settlement has been reached that allows those of us with current 09/10 dated Impact belts to keep them. What happens with suits and older dated stuff remains to be seen.

Re: Soft Suspensions

This is really just a variation of the age-old debate between soft spring/big anti-roll bars vs. stiff springs/small roll bars that has been going on in NASCAR and other racing series for decades. Factors like track conditions, suspension geometry and specifically, driver preference, all play a role...

Re: Adjustable droop

My understanding of using the motor or tranny as a stressed member implies that if you remove either component, the car has an incomplete frame and won't be able to stand up. If you look at many formula cars, from Ford on up, the engine, tranny or both are used as frame members. Remove either and t...

Re: Adjustable droop

To me, the concept of using the engine or trans as a "stressed member" implies the presence of an inboard suspension control point attached directly to either unit. Otherwise, I can't think of a vehicle in which the engine and trans are not "stressed" in some way by being attache...

Re: Showcase nationals

Does NASA have a regional sub structure like SCCA? I can not see how SCCA gets rid of the regional level of administration. Most of the scheduling issues revolve around the individual regions buying the race dates. Brian No, NASA is organized essentially along the lines of the SCCA's divisions, so ...

I think it's a good idea. I know some guys I used to race with in NASA doing something very similar with the American Iron racing series. Re: Showcase nationals

While I agree that this schedule is good reason to stay away, that fact is that race entries are falling and it is doubtful they will ever increase again. Probably not with the current model used to stage the Runoffs. Meanwhile, NASA took over SCCA's date at Mid-Ohio for it's own National Champions...
