Re: Hmm.... I let the magic smoke out...

The wire that decided it didn't need insulation was the NEGATIVE wire from the coil to the on/off switch... As soon as it smoked itself, the engine cut off.. Huh??? Unless I've been doing it wrong for almost 30 years, the POSITIVE witched feed from the ignition switch goes to the + terminal on the ...

Re: Solo Vee Disc brakes... anyone converted?

Hmmmm.. I think I had better confirm what kind of system I actually have! Could just be my Nubee ignorance showing  Assuming that you find a dual-circuit master cylinder setup with one cylinder to the front brakes and the other one to the rears, I would think that you would absolutely need to...

Re: Difference between a 3000lb car and a 835 lb car

What? You guys hit the cones? I once went through an entire event (6 runs) without hitting a cone. If Las Vegas were putting odds on me having a clean day versus the Miami Dolphins winning the Superbowl last year, smart money would be on the Dolphins. You don't know how close you can get to ...

Re: oil cooler

With the sun beating down, the tires seem to get hotter on the grid than right after a run. Did you try checking the tire pressures right before you run? Sitting in the sun will raise them significantly, which may be contributing to your traction problem. One of our local drivers throws white towel...

Re: oil cooler

My Solo Vee does not have an oil cooler. It does have a remote oil filter, so tapping into a line to add a cooler would be easy. Is an oil cooler recommended? :!: :!: :!: Maybe I'm going nuts, but I could swear that someone once told me that putting both an external oil filter and an external oil c...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?

A local driver and engineer who has had at least two of his A Mods banned by the SCCA Andy Whittle??? I third the caution about the brakes. My first run in a Vee was driving a Solo-prepped Autodynamics, and I thought that I was standing on a tie rod and not the brake pedal from the way it didn't st...

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?

Other than what has already been said, I'll add that the cones look MUCH taller from the driver's seat of a Vee...and sometimes hurt when you hit them! Looking ahead is critical, because the "sea of cones" feeling from a fendered car is more like a redwood forest of cones in a Vee....
