Re: OTHER VEES

Mac, Not to be an a$$, but.......... The Australians run fans (per CAMS rules) and the UK cars have plenty of room for fans. It not the width, its the legnth. At 127" OA, the US FV has the appearance to many of being "stubby". The Aussie and Britt cars are longer OA (like we did with ...

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

However, from the video that Bill directed us to, we would hopefully have less of a closing speed between any two vees. As pointed out in an earlier post, FV-N to FV-R is not going to be the issue at all. The CSR in the video was 25 seconds per lap off the pace for his race group. The fastest to sl...

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

Is there any way they identify by markings which car is regional vs. national when they race together? It seems like a reasonable thing to do. John, I get your point, but there is a large percentage of "dummies" armed with a National license, racing at the National level for decades. This...

Re: Rationals scheduled in the West

I don't think this came to be because Regional guys are asking for it, more like a change for club survival. I know in some parts of the country, things are great with oversubscribed entries and jammed paddock space. However, in our neck of the woods, races have been cancelled left and right due to ...

FF if you mean Formula First (not Formula Ford). Much more like FST than FV (US version). Engine size/rules, wheelbase and weight are the major differences between US FST and UK FV

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?

I appeared to have stumbled (stepped in) this boards hot button on only my second post, I'm not sure if that is a good or bad accomplishment........My apologies for dredging up an old debate, aka, beating an already dead horse. Glenn, Don't sweat it, minor stuff. FV is close to 50 years old and bec...

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?

I think it should be pointed out that this stituation has been a ongoing problem for FV. I started in 1980 and 30 years ago we had to deal with the newly formed F440. It has only gotten worse with class mixing over time. At the ARRC, we had no less than (7) classes in our race group (FF, FFX, CF, F5...

Re: Startting from Scratch - FV or FST?

Glenn, Please understand that I'm biased in this discussion. Your list of positives/negatives are pretty much spot on. The only thing I could add is that as a nation wide regional class (in the GCR), it will be a long time before FST goes away (ASR is still in the GCR as a regional class). I think t...

Re: 2011 Rule Change

Funny, been using the EMPI covers for years in FST and never had a leak. One guy did have one leak after something bounced up and cut the rubber seal, replaced it and no more leak. I have had plenty of trouble over the years with those polished aluminum VC's, mostly in sealing around the bolts. Foun...

Re: Think differently

Another way to get front camber.... Sometimes it is very difficult to fixture a beam tube true/straight when welding in a spring adjuster and in the process, the tube gets welded back together a little crooked  Here is an extreme example: http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5660/kgeorge3.jpg

Formula First at Grattan

For anyone who thought a converted FV cannot compete against a new purpose built car, you should have come to Grattan this past weekend to see it just is not true. Jason Steeb in a converted 1979 Lynx B (yep, original length wheelbase and all) took home a win in round 7. Here is a shot of his Lynx &...

Good heavens Mark,

How can you possibly think that the Formula First guys can be so competitive as to run over a fellow FV racer.

Here is a vid of Grattan last week for proof of how nice we are.

There are already (7) FST's registered for Mid-Ohio

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Roger, What ever it is/was, here is the reality. Without any documented history, log book or roll bar number to reference, you've got something of very low value (value meaning what someone would pay for it). To put it together to SCCA racing specs will cost a small fortune. A guess would be $10k in...

Re: Parting Out Whole Formula Vee

Matt,

Yes the car has a nose. Other than a battery and fire system, all of it is there (in need of major TLC, but all there). Please contact Butch and make him some reasonable offers (I'll leave the definition of reasonable up to you and Butch), I just want this thing out of my garage post haste.
