Re: Av gas
It has long been illegal to sell avgas for non-aviation purposes. Mostly, that was for tax reasons. I really doubt that the EPA has gone to races or track events and tested gasoline. First, leaded gasoline is not illegal for racing. Yet. Second, they can't just seize samples. They need a search warr...

Re: Zink Solo Vee questions
Expect bolt on valve covers to be required next year. Amazingly, the same car had the same valve cover knocked off by cones on each day at the Nationals. I had not heard of valve covers coming off due to cones before. This is less likely to happen with trailing arms but it is still possible.

Re: Zink Solo Vee questions
You do not need a fuel cell for Solo. My car has an aluminum tank. The Lynx had a one gallon Junior dragster cell. The only thing the Solo rules require you to wear are a helmet and closed toed shoes. Local laws, customs, etc. will dictate anything else you wear.

Re: Solo Nationals
1600 cc engines are allowed 2 carbs, larger valves and 10:1 compression ratio. Larger engines up to 1915 cc must use one carb, stock valves and 9:1 compression ratio.

Re: Solo Nationals
The height of this roll bar is almost exactly at legal specs. At various tech inspections at Nat and NT's the top of my helmet is about half an inch below the top of the roll bar. Also the bar is made of road race legal diameter and wall thickness tubing and not the smaller and thinner tube allowed ...
Re: Thank You
Those pictures scare me. Please get some eye protection. The roll bar is not legal. For Solo, it needs to be at least as high as your helmet.
Nice job with the car. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Re: 2011 Rule Change
I've replaced the rubber gaskets on the EMPI covers several times with torque ranging from finger tight to as tight as I think I can go without stripping the threads. Tighter was somewhat better but the still leak. A lot. And the right side is worse than the left.

Dry sump systems
Unbeknownst to each other, Johnny B. and I have both sent letters today to the SEB requesting that Solo Vees be allowed to use Dry sump systems. We would appreciate any letters sent to the SEB in support of dry sumps.

Re: 2011 Rule Change
The covers with EMPI cast into them use rubber seals which slip over the covers. These leak like a sieve.

Re: An open apology..
It was good to see you at Nats, Johnny. It was surprising that a valve cover could be knocked off by a cone. It is an amazing coincidence that it would happen again the next day. You've done a great job in building the car and were doing so well. I feel badly for what happened to you and John and I ...

Re: 2011 Rule Change
The course was oiled down each day by the same driver after hitting cones and knocking off the valve cover. The bails on the valve covers were safety wired and cable tied on the second day but it still came off. The first day about a third of the course was oiled. The second day, almost all the cour...

2011 Rule Change
Expect bolt on valve covers to be mandatory for 2011. This will be a high priority for the next SEB meeting and the number one priority for the MAC. Personally, I think the problem can be solved by banning leading arm suspensions. FYI, the last sentence is a joke. The first two sentences are 100% ac...

I ordered tires from R&S Racing about three weeks ago and had Ron bring them to the Midwest Divisional at Lincoln last week. They are now covered with other peoples rubber.

Disk brakes, and I don't mean the VW disk brakes. Think dune buggies. I think you mean a Jamar shifter. Check you backspacing. While 6 and 7 may be true, I think 5 and 6 may be what you have. Many of us are using 8 and 10 inch wheels, but I have been told that the smaller wheels might be better sinc...

Re: Need opinion on car to use for drivers school
St. Louis Region had a double school double regional earlier this year. Some of the entrants rented Spec Miatas for which the man renting them provided crews. All of them ended the weekend with a Regional license. All of them agree that it was worth the money and they might not have completed the we...

Drew sprayed the heads and cylinders with a garden sprayer. I mean soaked them. I did the same. I have scoops on the car now with the 1915 (not Drew's engine) and it doesn't get hot enough to spray with a single driver. Don't have a lot of experience with two with this setup, but it seems alright wi...

Spa Design GP1-FR right side and GP1-FL left side. There are also a couple of sports car mirrors that look more like those on your car. At those prices, I'm sure glad we don't have mirrors on Solo Vees.

Re: Clutch won't stay adjusted
I asked some of the people at our last autocross if they saw the tires spinning. They all said no. I started using a muffler this year and now I think what I am hearing is just the normal sound of racing tires. I'll ask them to take a closer look this weekend. A properly driven solo vee with zero ro...

Mike Billings is now a CM competitor in Lola T-644. His solo vee was in the classifieds on the SRacing site. It has been removed, so I assume it was sold.
