Re: Low turnouts

I actually edited for the Run-Offs when Speed was known as Speedvision. If I recall, they only have the rights to the Run Offs since Valvoline was footing the bill. They want nothing to do with the SCCA otherwise (exception is the semi-pro World Challenge). "All NASCAR all the time" is the...

Re: Low turnouts

Well folks, here's a little more fuel for the fire. I work for a cable network. A pretty big one, and we do a lot of sports like the PBR rodeo, NHL, Tour de France, etc. I contacted the SCCA president and his minions regarding putting races from various tracks on the network. Not one of them bothere...

Re: Low turnouts

Ricky, I agree. But... It still seems like there are those out there that need a "head to head" before even considering the idea.

It still makes you wonder what the true "problem" is with FV and its stagnated growth. Lots of questions, few real answers. :?:

Re: Low turnouts

Is there any possibility of having some "real world" testing done for a spec tire? Would someone (cough... SR... cough...) be willing to put up a few sets of tires to help the cause? It's certainly worth considering, and not just dismissing it offhand as many are prone to do. Chris

Re: WANTED Formcar FV

Harvey Bennett at The Tackle Shop in Amagansett NY has a time warp 1963 - Formcar Mark I. I was going to buy her, but got the Beach instead. His car is complete and original.

Re: Low turnouts

Bill, I'm one of those guys you mention. But I don't mind coming out to play with a "modern" car either. :P I will admit, the simplicity and affordability of a vintage FV is what pushed me to make a purchase. You get to play with the champagne set on a beer budget. That being said,...

Re: Low turnouts

Jim, I do agree with you to a degree. But... Can you convince a large percentage of the folks here to make the switch? I bet it would be a tough sell, irregardless of whether or not it is a "smart" move. Old habits die hard, and are the toughest to change. For many, I can see giving up 120...

Re: Low turnouts

Bill those are some interesting links to our NZ and Aussie friends. Great websites full of useful information. Downloadable races, interviews with drivers. Jeez! This should be our guide to what's the "right thing" to do. The SCCA is a grade school science project compared to them. As for ...

Re: Low turnouts

I'm curious why in the UK and Australia Formula Vee has such a good spread of ages for its drivers. There are plenty of young people and plenty of old timers in the mix. Here in the states, it seems like only the "over-40" crowd have any lasting interest in the class. Why is that? Is it th...

Re: Low turnouts

The new track in NJ opened? And hosted an SCCA event? I did not know that. It seems we need to open our mouths to be heard as well if we are going to grow this sport we love. I live about an hour and change from the new track, and I would have certainly packed the kids up in the Pilot to go see some...

Legal or not?

Thinking of swiping this idea for my FV. If the tank is a fuel-safe type, would this pass tech? I will assume at the very least that the filler would have to be moved.

Thanks

It looks a lot like like the result of mating a Karmann Ghia with a Porsche Speedster, and I like it! :P

Re: Beach 5c restoration. Where to start?

Luckily, both shocks are there, but will likely need at least a rebuild to make sure they are at 100%. I can handle much of the mechanicals, as I was "into" VDubs in the 80's and had a few Cal-look cars at the time that I built from parts. The bodywork is all there too, except for the lowe...

Wanted: regional/vintage level motor

Since my "new to me" Beach 5c is going to be more trouble than expected in this department, I thought I'd go with something a bit more reliable.

Please send price and pics if possible. I am located in southern CT.

Thanks

Build your own trailer link

Pretty simple way to get to and from the track on a budget. Looks better than most homebuilts.
