Re: Shock Dyno
Brian, I don't think the larger piston would do much good for our needs - this is what the manufacturer offered when I inquired. I was just curious to see if they might have some improvements... The larger piston would provide more force for a given pressure and that might be useful for stiffer shoc...

Re: Shock Dyno
Jim, I apologize for taking this a bit off-track, but perhaps you can offer a bit of expertise regarding the shock test unit. While at the PRI show, I asked the folks that had one of these units on display about taking readings at 1 IPS or lower shock speeds. They told me that I needed to talk to th...

Re: Shock Dyno
Jim,
Can you post some charts/graphs showing the results and maybe a pic or two of the unit itself? I have one of the units that uses a stopwatch and requires manual data entry into a spreadsheet; works OK but doesn't show what is happening at the nose of the shock curve.

Re: oil pressure relief valve
A word of caution using teh chisel method on the screw. Depending on how tight it is, you may end up with a dimple on the sealing washer surface. It will not seal well when that happens, so be aware. I'd recommend machining or replacement if that happens, AND as Brian suggests, weld or braze a 13 mm...

Re: FV Meeting at Runoffs
I would like to thank the committee once again for the time and effort they put in on our behalf. Thankfully their skins are thicker than mine as I wouldn't waste my time on a group that appears as thankless as some of the Vee drivers appear to be. It is unfortunate that it is far easier to condemn ...

FV Meeting at Runoffs
Wasn't there supposed to be a meeting at the runoffs for the FV group? Just curious if there was a meeting, and if so, what happened. Discussion of rule changes, etc.; I haven't seen any mention of it on this forum.
Thanks.

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers
Ed is correct in that you can't just add the bearing and washers to an existing spacer. That ones that SR is selling have a counterbore for the bearing and spacers so the installed dimensions are just about identical to the version without the bearing. These also have the OD of the spacer extend bey...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings
Steve, I think EVERYTHING is bending! If you look at the ratio of wheel centerline to the ground (say 11" for a 22" tire) and the spacing between the two link pins (~5.25" then divide by two [2.625] to get the ratio) you are looking at a multiplying factor of 4.19 to 1! So 100 pounds ...

Re: Needle Bearing Front Beam Spacers
Both the needle bearing spacer and the solid spacer will allow you to tighten up your A/R bar to minimize end play. Too much torque with either style spacer will cause drag in the bar as it rotates. The point with the needle bearing version is that you have hardened washers that the bearings are wor...

Re: Link pin shims with angled bushings
One point I don't think has been raised yet about the entire front suspension is that all the pieces need to be assembled so there is no free play - as that will allow movement that will contribute to camber change; the link pins are only one aspect of achieving and maintaining the desired camber. L...

Re: FasTrack FV Final Manifold Rules Proposal
I'll add my 2 cents to this. First I want to thank the committee for all their efforts on OUR behalf. Bruce put a lot of time and effort into that spreadsheet. There are many points to consider here and I would encourage everyone that has a manifold to go measure it and see for themselves how they m...

Re: Minimum Weight Survey
I'll add that the 2009 DSR national championship winner or someone associated with his team posted that they used PLASTIC screws where possible to save weight. THEY were very serious about winning. I agree with Brian that you want everything going in your favor as often as you can.

Re: Cable Droop Limiter
It hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll point it out. One of your challenges is going to be keeping the cable nestled in the pulley grooves as the chassis moves up and down. Many possibilities. It would be worth your time to research how this was done so you can learn from the trial and error process ...

Re: How to put a value on a box van?
Bob, Since you mentioned it, I'll comment about the idea of turning the truck into a bunkhouse. Years ago, a friend had an aluminum sided cargo truck and in cold weather that thing would just suck the heat out of you. This probably doesn't have the aluminum siding, but probably will not retain heat ...

Bruin,
SCCA has had an archivist that has been able to supply old info like you are requesting. At one time it was Harry Handley, but I don't know the current status. Hope this helps.

Re: Detached Carb Float
Thank you to Steve and Jim for your replies. This was my presumption, but I was still interested in hearing from others. Interesting though that I have seen the steel washer glued to the bottom of the float so you are still using the float in its original orientation. I have also seen two floats glu...

Detached Carb Float
Just curious about why we remove the carb float from the inlet needle actuation arm. This has been done for over 25 years that I am aware of, and now I'm curious as to why. It would seem that the plastic float would be more stable if it was attached. I know that the REALLY OLD brass floats weren't a...

The rebuild kit for a 28 PCI will NOT work on a 28 PICT. The accelerator pump diaphragms are different sizes as are the gaskets for the top cover. Jim is correct about the venturi diameter. If you wanted to go to the trouble, you couldn't bore out a 28 PICT to be as large as the 28 PCI due to the si...

Re: Oil Sump Rule Change
Adding to my previous post, I think the wording of the proposed rule change is fine except that a volume limit should be added. Thank you to whoever put the effort in to do this. Also, just for clarification, I'm only suggesting the 1.5 quart limit because of the unit from CB Performance. This is cu...

Re: Oil Sump Rule Change
This sump proposal has some benefits; it also has a few negatives. Benefits: better (BUT NOT GUARANTEED) oil supply. There are a couple of off-the-shelf units out there right now (CB Performance has a 1.5 qt unit that fits well, and also 2 and 4 qt versions; perhaps there are others). Negatives: The...

Re: April Meeting
Dietmar, Thank you for posting the info for us. Can you confirm then that the manifold rules proposed in the February 09 Fastrack have been adopted? Or is the CRB still waffling on the issue? Regarding the wet sump extension, I can foresee that these could get very large. Personally I think that a s...

Re: April Fastrack--Oil Sumps
It has been mentioned a couple of times here and I would like to reinforce the concern of where do you put the dry sump tank - it isn't small and it will not be a trivial issue to place one of appropriate size (probably 5 or 6 quart volume) in our cars! In most cases it will require a custom tank to...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
Bill et al, My comment about NOT responding to the CRB with comments on the new suggestions was a concern that they might not know the specifics of what we were commenting on. Item 2 would be a new request and presumably you might choose either item 3 or 4. Would the CRB know about these items if th...

Re: Need more input on the FV manifold rules
Dietmer, Bruce and SteveO, Thank you for your responses. SteveO confirmed my suspicions that the new suggestions have not gone to the SCCA/CRB and as such, comments to the CRB would be inappropriate at this time for the NEW suggestions. Again though, my understanding of the rule changes submitted in...
