Re: Engine ID/ oil pressure problems
Be carefull about just replacing the pump cover and plugging the return "hole". The case and/or the pump outlet should have been plugged to redirect the pump output to the cover outlet. If you just replace and plug, you will have NO oil pressure!

Re: Drum Brake Questions
Smaller bore Master Cylinders provide more line pressure for a given pedal pressure, but they require more pedal movement. I have to pay attention to brake shoe adjustment, as this plays a big part in pedal position. Most MC's are marked on the outside with their size (at least all of the ones I hav...

Re: Drum Brake Questions
I just changed from 3/4 " MC's to 5/8", the improvement is significant. I use a balance bar, but have not had time to adjust it, left it as it was with the 3/4" setup. I just have to be careful not to lock up the brakes now

Re: Difference between a 3000lb car and a 835 lb car
Great picture! Wait 'til you lose it in a box, do a 360, taking out the WHOLE far end of the box. Solo Vees are so much more fun than door slammers! You have to figure out a way to get some in car video, then you can relive the best and worst.

Re: oil cooler
Back to the subject, I have a full flow case (oil pump to oil filter, back to the case) and use a stock cooler with no oil temp problems. If you are using a oil cooler adapter to filter, you should use an in line oil cooler, but head temperatures are the real issue. If you have no aux cooling fans, ...

Re: oil cooler
With the hand held pyro I am seeing mid to high 300's. I try to get the heads back down to the low to mid 200's before starting another run. Our courses are long (60 - 80 secs) with a long return to grid, another 60 - 90 seconds; usually run on a road course. When I am sharing with another driver, w...

Re: oil cooler
Are you checking the Cylinder Head temps? I made that mistake, relying on oil temp - overheated a head, dropped a valve seat - trashed the head and nicked the piston crown. I've been using a hand held pyrometer since then, putting in a Cylinder Head Temp gage this season.

Re: oil cooler
I run my solo vee with a VW dog house cooler, no oil temp problems. Head temps control run time, it never runs long enough to over heat the oil.

Re: Any 1st time Solo Vee AutoX tips?
On my Lynx, you have to STAND on the brake pedal. I can lock up the fronts, but usually only when braking and turning in at the same time. I second the comment on getting down to the level your head will be at during the course walk. Watch that first maneuver on the first run, it will come at you qu...

Re: '72 Lynx Solo Vee off season rebuild
I used a simple electric orbital sander, a pneumatic angle die grinder with sanding disks and hand sanded the hard to reach spots. I didn't even look into media blasting, I really wanted to do this myself. It took 6 - 8 hours to sand, including cutting off some unused brackets with an electric angle...

Re: It Lives and Breathes....
Simply stunning. I am in awe that you could combine the restoration/rebuild with the as purchased body work. Well done! My son and I are working on highly "modified" '63 Sardini Solo Vee, but the results will not be near as nice. Congatulations on a job well done.

Re: '72 Lynx Solo Vee off season rebuild
This is a Solo only car, and I agree, I would never think of putting this thing on a track with other cars. I have not removed any structure from the car, but it has had a few owners before I got it.

Re: '72 Lynx Solo Vee off season rebuild
Is it easier to see the gauges on the floor as opposed to the standard dash position? I don't like them there, that is where they were mounted when I bought the car. I am removing them, putting in an oil warning light and a cylinder head temperature gage, moving the oil pressure and maybe the oil t...
