Re: Spec Tire

I will preempt the following comment with this statement: I have been a Hoosier Tire dealer for 30 years. Additionally, I stress that this opinion is SOLELY mine, and carries ZERO validation from Hoosier. In light of Hoosier currently being the only manufacturer of a nationally competitive tire for ...

..... but if you look at my rockers, I don't go to the extremes that I see on some others. While I do typically remove some from the screw end, I never remove any from the spine, and I DO see it as a wonderful thing to not be forced to weaken the beam by removing any material from the underside of ...

Brian,
Thanks, I'll give him a call tomorrow.
The heads I referred to had been done by one of us builders as a means of claiming that some mods had not been done by him but were there from when he had them cast. Get the picture?

OK, w/o getting into the finite details of the spring, you did mention that you sell them, so might I ask what the price is for a set of 8, with and w/o retainers?

Re: February Minutes

Since you intend to change valve springs to no longer be free, as they always have been(as long as they were magnetic), which will make approximately 30 of my customers engines illegal, would you mind sharing with me what you perceive to be the advantage of a smaller boss/spring? Is there an advanta...

Re: February Minutes

If I read your post correctly, I believe there is a flaw in your proposed technique of measuring the deck height that could find a large percentage of the engines to be illegal. Because the width of the rod bushing is what determines how square the piston sits in the jug, and that bushing is often l...

Re: January Committee Minutes

Hardingfv (Brian H.)... I really don't see any justification or need in going away from steel retainers. I initially turned quite a few of our chrome moly units down to suit the springs. This was quite time consuming, and then had several hundred made from the same material but smaller. To me, the m...

Re: January Committee Minutes

OK, from what I am reading here, taking even a skin cut off of the valve cover surface constitutes an illegality, right? What do we then do with those blatant "Citation owner-cheaters" who saw off a substantial chunk in order to clear the rear suspension. How about all of the cases where t...

Re: Forged Pistons

[quote="brian"]Some engine builder prefer to increase the clearance on new cylinders. Cylinders are delivered with usually .025 clearance between the piston diameter and the cylinder. Generally speaking, this is increased to about .045. Brian, are you sure that you don't actually mean .002...

Re: Forged Pistons

I can't believe there is still a push for forged pistons and o/s or reworked cylinders. Makes me question the motive(s). Unless the application is a much higher revving engine, or much higher compression, the forged pistons are not only unnecessary, but an actual disadvantage. I see no problem with ...

Lastly, what is the opinion of the committee on having the top 2.0mm ring groove moved up to the maximum height that the rules would allow, and what is that dimension? Re: February Minutes

Dietmar, I had to laugh when you told me of the set you received. I have to wonder how many other such sets were sent out like that, and if anyone thought "well, they must know best", and then installed them like that. The word I get is that the late style cylinders (which, as previously s...

Re: February Minutes

Dietmar, First, thank you for your work on the piston issue. When I spoke with AA, I was informed that resizing the groove to 2.5mm was a major change in the process. Doesn't seem that big of a deal, but, that is what I was told. There was also the issue of not being able to obtain the 2.5mm rings. ...

Re: January Minutes

However, if one considers that forged pistons should be more durable and show less wear than cast, and that they should need minimal "race preparation", the cost might not be considered prohibitive by some. Also, with the Euro at a lower level, we once again discussed the pistons still av...
