Re: 1965 Autodynamics Mark II

Chuck where are you located? CVAR has a couple of AD in the club, maybe one is near you? Most FV have shifter set up that is similar, so unless you are a "stickler for Originality" most vees get modified over time to better fit various drivers. But we should be able to get you set up with ...

Re: Back to vintage?

It would seem to me the best bet, would be to keep the vee as an autocross car to sell. In looking at pictures, I believe the frame is more likely a knock off of a Lynx, the trailing arms look wrong, the dash area is not original and last the body is way off. While as a whole the vintage vee race gr...

Re: FV major rules changes over the last 46 years?

I would agree (after my earlier post that I questioned the fan removal) but now I believe you are correct (big deal, right?) With the fan removed AND with usage of a better oil cooler that could be mounted where ever it was needed to provide good cooling along with adding a proper filter that added ...

Re: Front beam question

This is the sway bar or anti roll bar. Different dia.tubes installed w/o center grub screw, are used to help the vee balance, i.e. under or over steer correction. See this sites sponcers , they make them out of round tubes with square ends welded in, so they fit the original holes in turkey legs

Kevin, Next time concider Vintage FV! While not perfect it is the most fun I've ever had racing over 30 years, (bikes, karts, circle track, SCCA FV) Great group of people, no one is running to get to the run offs, or expects to be in F1 next year! Typical tight FV racing but w/o the rough stuff! No ...

WOW, such a cool old original Vee! 4 exhaust pipes, no Z bar, tiny roll bar dia. fully enclosed rear, solid wheels! It has been off the track a long time! Too bad it has to be painted.

Best of luck, great to see it.

Re: Legal Engine quesions

Not all vintage vee groups follow the same rules. You should check with the vintage group you plan to run with most of the time , I'm sure they have a engine spec. Many vintage groups follow at least a modified version of the FV spec from http://www.monoposto.com/ Engines are generally the same as w...

Re: FV major rules changes over the last 46 years?

Fred, In my experience, by the time the SCCA allowed the fans to be removed, long about 1976 -77? most serious vees had already started to duct in out side air to the heads & cyls, then made the fan belt so loose it would easily flip off early in a race and eliminate the fan drag along with the ...

Re: Oh No! No gears after engine install....

Did you remove the clutch by any chance and put it back on backwards? Can you put tranny in gear when engine is not running, and if so when you rock the car you are up against engine compression? When guiding engine in if you bump the throw out face, it can become dislodged and keep the clutch form ...

Re: Need help tuning

I'd advise getting a Weber tuning book. these are great carbs, everthing is adjustable & tunable and it takes a "system" to go through the process so you do not screw up one fuel circuit while fixing another. I have a Datsun 280 with triple Webers (this is like 6 single barrel carbs) a...

Re: oil filter location

Cooling a vintage vee can some times be a problem. Some vintage groups require use of the original fan, as I see in your pictures you have. In the old days and now again, many folks run the fan belt very loose and or greased up so it stops turning at higher engine RPM thus increasing top end speed. ...

Re: Pre 1970 intake manifold rules

I would suspect like most engine rules creep allowed over the years, someone began flowing testing hundreds of manifolds (Jim wild?) found a killer manifold, that no one else could touch? So to fix the problem, then everyone is allowed to modify to keep up? How many other mods came by this route. Cam...

Re: What make of vee is this?

Victoracing, I would not feel too bad if you can never put a name to your frame. In the early days of FV almost every Vee built was a homebuilt job. This is not to say they were not well made, by skilled men with vision to build a better mouse trap (er vee) there were as many ideas on how to weld or...

Re: Intake Manifold for Vintage

Brian, With the many different groups promoting vintage vee racing today, not an easy task! likely the best place to start is from FV engine rules used for http://www.monoposto.com/ They cover a fair % of the vintage vee racing in US and other groups usually use at least some of their rules. Good lu...

Re: New to Vee racing. Have Questions

Hars550, Vintage racing is a bit different then the typically see with the SCCA, as there is no central controlling org. covering the US. What we have is many smaller groups that have been organized over the years to meet different needs, some are very strict and want high end cars only but then the...

Re: Formcar exhaust headers

I believe original Formcar had 4 individual exhaust pipes exiting out the rear, as did other early Vees. This design while producing power did so in a very limited RPM range, and with a vees limited gear ratios this design was obsoleted very quickly as it was found other header pipe designs with col...

We run against one (not sure what model) in CVAR (plently quick too) It was restored and is maintained by Bigger Hammer Racing in Cedar Hill, TX. The owner Bill Griffith's life is Vee race prep & rentals. I'm sure he won't mind a call. Shop # is 972-291-5460
