Transaxle oil - shockproof?

Hi - my car's original setup sheet specifies Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil, but the previous owner crossed it out and told me not to use shockproof - something about the syncros not liking it very much.

Any thoughts? Are most guys just running Redline MTL?

Cheers :)

Re: Greying of the class

That's definitely the idea I get about the SCCA events. I'm lucky to be in an area where most people run home built (well, by relatively experienced home builders, but they're not exactly Mike Palermo!) and where costs are expected to be low. People here run vees because they're cheap and because th...

Re: Transponder location

Mine is mounted to the frame just ahead of the front beam. Pretty close to the ground, and it's actually sitting at an angle, but seems to work fine. I've seen people use them zip tied to the top beam tube, but most guys here seem to run them on the frame. I've even seen frames that were notched to ...

Re: Greying of the class

Well that makes sense.. I mean, I don't know that many "kids" my age (late 20's) who could comfortably afford to go racing. Even as "cheap" as vees can be, it's still racing = money pit. I'm lucky to have a decent job that allows me to play with race cars for a little bit, but st...

Re: Promotion Idea

Well, locally, Formula Vee is alive and growing every race weekend. We are lucky to have a couple of guys (Bob and Scott at Family Affair Racing Team, F.A.R.T. - http://www.unionracing.ca) that decided to buy a couple cars and start renting them out. The low running costs and cheap cars means their ...

Re: Greying of the class

Oh I plan on keeping at it - I've bought the car now, can't afford to not use it. Damn economy and all that, I'm pretty well stuck with it ;) Nah, I love it.. I really don't mind the fact that just about everyone else in the class, locally at least, is twice my age. Hell, Al Ores has been racing Vee...

Re: Greying of the class

Well all that experience has to count for something, eh? What was the combined experience in the bottom 3 finishers? ;)

I'd like to think there are a few other younger guys out there.. I'm 26, I almost feel too young for vees and too old for anything else.

front shock length question

Hey guys - I store my car away from home and I won't be able to get to it anytime soon to measure this up - could anyone tell me the ideal front shock length? I don't know how people usually list these things - a shock listed at 7" means it's 7" end to end fully compressed? How much travel...

Re: Soft Suspensions

Well Brian, I thought you had some good points earlier in the thread as to why a soft(er) suspension isn't ideal in the dry - higher ride height necessary, more time in transition and less time in steady(ish) state, etc.. This may sound silly, but this is a big deal in racing simulators as well. On ...

Re: Soft Suspensions

Pros and cons, right? To my inexperienced self, it sort of goes back to something that was discussed earlier in this thread - soft is easier to drive, stiff is faster if you can handle it (please let's not argue this, I'm just over simplifying to make a point :P). In the rain, you need all the help ...
