It looks like the rear wheel often blocks the view from the side. Can frame members block the view if the shock is mounted below the transmission? Would this be a big political issue to have some kind of change?

Re: Low turnouts
So if your not concerned about tire performance, then why not run more than 8-10 heat cycles. Is it unsafe?
The SFR Stewards are not aware nor would they recognize any gentleman's agreement concerning the use of AR tires. It must be stated in the supps.

Re: Low turnouts
AR's are as soft a Hoosier R55's, but no where as fast. They have absolutely no side wall stiffness and thus suffer from a lack of contact patch control. The price is the only thing going for the AR's. Spec tire proponents: Do you move to the front of the pack on those occasions when you have fresh ...

In ALL hobbies you will have attrition at the 2-3 year mark. It takes this long for newcomers to develop a clear understanding of the issues and difficulties of becoming successful at the hobby they are involved in. There is no way around this attrition. Spec Miata happened because it is the correct car for the current generation of new racers. There are lots of service and rental firms for this product. As stated earlier, SM would not have happened if SCCA did not have a system to integrate new ideas. SCCA can not solve the demographic changes that...

Faired in rear locating arms
Building a new aero car for RA. I wish to run side pods that cover the front and rear axles. If I run leading rear control arms, they would be located inside the side pods. How do I satisfy the side vision rule, C.9.O "shall be visible from the side..." ? Can I use a clear window? How much...

Bill Steele's analysis is spot on.....things are changing. Don't waste time comparing the past with the future. Make the most of the new landscape. The National racing program is waning, is that really a sign of the end of club racing? Is there still a need for a National race program? Our club offi...

Brake shoe dragging
What causes a brake shoe to drag? It comes off the track dragging, but the shoe can be shifted to eliminate the dragging. It does not seem to center itself after applications.

Re: Roller Wheel Bearing Adjustment
This is an interesting question. The old myth with ball bearings is to set then loose, but is this in fact correct if you want low drag? This is what Timken does for the NASCAR teams, maybe there is something to be learned: http://machinedesign.com/ContentItem/62898/Coolerrunningwheelbearingshelprac...

Re: LimeRock no longer a momentum track
No lawyers involved here...just trying to meet the demand of the most customers. Lime Rock might be just right for a Vee, but it probably is too fast for a modern professional race series. Also remember motorcycles are used just as much as cars at most tracks. They have different safety issues. Next...

Re: Fuel testing rules
Jim is correct...a DC value that controls the use of super fuels also excludes the use of pumped unleaded fuel. Look at the DC values in this chart and the problem becomes apparent. http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~hideseng/dc_list.htm This is the reason for the present fuel standards.

Does SCCA now have modify the fuel rule to protect drivers with sub par respiratory systems? Driving under less than ideal conditions is part of racing. Running a somewhat rich fuel mixture can have performance advantages. Using low tension oil rings and burn some oil also has some performance advan...

Re: Fuel testing rules
The intent of the proposed rule change is to allow the use of unleaded pump fuel. This is a common request that is made by average club racer. The majority of club racers want to be able to use pumped unleaded fuel. They usually are not at the top of the competition ladder. This will save money for ...

The Runoffs is the easier of the two issues to improve. How do you improve the National program in general? Does the National program have any relevance?

Looking for data to help formulate a plan:
Do the Runoffs need to be a revenue generator?
Do we need a National program? What is the breakdown between Nat and Reg entries/fees? The San Francisco Reg (10+ race per yr) has made the decision that the big money is in Regional racing.

Re: Crankcase ventilation
What you are missing out on is the extra HP that a good ring package provides. The extra 400cc are of no significance. Your oil problems stem from a poorly prepared engine. Doesn't cost any extra to do it right. It is very unlikely you are pulling more G's than a road racing Vee. You can not be gett...

Re: Crankcase ventilation
With a good ring system you should be able to get the blow-by down to 2-3 CFM. This is well within the design limits of the stock breather system. Having to vent the valve covers is an indication of a completely inadequate ring package. For oil control on the cylinder walls, how about individual cyl...

Are FV's sleek dune buggies or road racers? Just because the parts are crude does not mean we have to treat our Vees with any less attention to detail than any other SCCA race car.
