Re: Rear bearing outer spacer removal

Cover came off fine but the spacer is frozen to the axle.

Rear bearing outer spacer removal

I'm trying to remove the rear axles and I'm "stuck" at the outer spacer. Any hints on how to get that off?

Thanks, Mike

Re: Nationals and fuel cell

Our local scrutineer had me use the "loop" that Brian mentioned and use a PCV valve at the end of the tube.

Re: runoffs live coverage live from speedcast

Watched the CSR race and it worked great. Good side is its live and you get the whole race (and EFR as a commentator) - bad side is not much coverage of the back of the pack but that might change if the race up front is not as good as the CSR race was. I do miss the coverage of the personal side tho...

In that case would you mind doing it at a reduced pace for a few laps - just ahead of me?

lap timers

Anybody know anything about these lap timers?

http://www.blindapex.com/products_displayit.html

Works with the AMB system that has a transmitter added. Apparently some SCCA regions support it. Seems like an easy way to get times.

Oil temp sender/gauge test

I ran the same HOT Nashville races (in a Caracal D) that Anthony (caracal76) referred to in his post on cooling tins and only saw 200 on my oil temp gauge. Given the ambient temps and what Anthony was seeing I'm wondering if my gauge and/or sensor is bad. Is there a test for these items or should I ...

One more thought. You won't be able to operate the iPhone with your gloves on.

Steve,
Sherman Engler holds the track record at 1:12.420. Anthony Henderson ran a 1:14.0 at last year's HOD.

Re: Cool iPhone app

The iPhone has a 3-axis accelerometer but I think the direction perpendicular to the screen only gives upside-down and rightside-up info. So it probably works best if the other two directions are aligned parallel to the ground. Also, it must use GPS for laps times and track position so it should wor...

Re: Front bearing failure

Steve, Thanks for the reply. Bearing almost certainly ran out of grease. I didn't think about it at the time (I was so suprised when it fell apart) but thinking back after your comment I don't think there was much grease on it. I had repacked the bearings before the previous race so it was recent. M...

Front bearing failure

The inner bearing (ball type) on my left front failed during my last race and I'm wondering if it's normal "wear and tear" or some other problem. When I pulled the drum to check the brakes (subject for another post) some of the balls fell out. The seats were "enlarged" also. I ha...

Re: Beam question

Dietmar, Brian, Thanks for the help. I pulled the rod last night, put on some loctite and replaced. There is some play so I'll try to adjust the rod and tighten the grub screw tonight. On a side note I've never appreciated the whole grub screw configuration before. I always check the lock nut but ha...

Re: Beam question

Dietmar, Thanks for the info. Now given that the only way I can get the rod tight is to screw it down tight onto the washer it seems that I need to do something to prevent it from backing itself out and ending up under a rear tire at 90+ mph in the trioval at NSS. So what can I expect when I remove ...

Beam question

My new-to-me Vee has a threaded rod extending from one end of the upper beam tube. Last night as I was checking nuts and bolts before the next event I noticed that it was loose - the rod turned, not the nyloc nut on it. I could screw it outward by hand. When I tightened it the beam was "stiff&q...

FV rentals

Is there a list somewhere of rentals?

Cut this from the "poll" post below: "You need a guy like Dick Stewart out there http://www.fvrentals.info/". I know SR rents FV/FST. Anyone else? Anyone in the Southeast?

Thanks, Mike

Re: Front Impact Attenuation Structure

The rule that is specific to FV is 9.4.5.G.2. 2. Formula Vee and other formula cars using the VW sedan H-beam front suspension may use the front crush structure specified in 9.1.1.C.3.a.10., or any of the structures listed in G.1 above. That means the previous FV requirement (9.1.1.C.3.a.10) is suf...

Re: Max RPM on straight

Mine is SR built also but with a dozen or so TIme Trial events on it. I've rechecked timing, dwell, and valves so I don't think that's it and it'll pull to over 6500 in lower gears. Next plan is to check fuel and air filters and ???

Max RPM on straight

What's the max that folks see on a long straight (e.g. Roebling Road)? My Predator (long box - no draft) stopped at 5000. I seem to recall hitting 5500 at Nashville once but only got to 5000 last year.

Thanks,

Mike
