Re: Zero Roll damping theory??

Thanks guys,
That is kinda what I was imagining.. All roll resistance being at the front and very little if any cross-corner transfer..

Re: Zero Roll damping theory??

Thanks Brian. I should have been more clear. I am concerned with the cornering weight transfer that would occur in a slolom. In particuar, the cross corner weight transfer. Is there any? And secondarily, what happens in a steady state condition with the weights at the front... I know this is a lot t...

Re: Jetting for 1915 upgrade

Okay, here's the skinny for your 40IDF:
1835-2000cc 30mm venturi, 1.55 main gas, 1.60 main A/C, F11 E/Tube, .70 idle, .75 p/jet...

It's just a base line and doesn't take into compression ratio, head flow, and cam specifics.. I would think that the main gas could be bumped some.

Re: Jetting for 1915 upgrade

Hey,
I've got this JPEG of the Weber Volkswagen jetting info but I can't figure out how to post it. It has all the info to get started.. Help with info for posting would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Zero Roll damping theory??

Okay here's one to get some discussion going.. Once again, I am confused about the zero-roll dynamics. In SOLO and with a conventionally suspended car everyone runs very little rebound in their shocks in order to attain the maximum weight transfer during extended maneuvers, i.e., 6-7 cone slal...

Re: Jetting for 1915 upgrade

Hey, I am about in the same situation as you and I have no actual knowledge for this issue. I run a 44 Weber with some custom 28mm venturis. I know that I will have to increase the venturi size because of the additional air volume. I am going to check my Weber info and sites today and I will ...

Re: Third gear

Lynn, If the Zink has the same tranny in it that I had built, then it is has a 1.56 and a 1.22. I currently run a 1.48 as I beleve that Scott N. does, also. I really wonder what how the new 1915 motor is going to be with this gearing.. I have found that with the 1.48 I never had to go to 4th on a na...

Re: Zero Roll corner weights

Robert, I have returned the scales but I may look into it again once it gets warm and I feel more like being out in the garage. Maybe it was the UFO that hovers above the house from time-to-time that affected the gravitational fields... But, I swear the right front and left rear were 10lbs hea...

Paul,
A Weber is much taller than your current unit and I believe that the intake may be a little taller also but I'm not sure about that.

Re: Need help - know nothing!

Okay.. I notice that you have a ball joint front beam right? Your wheels are 15" 4-bolt? Are you running disc brakes? BTW, an additional low cost added to the heads and carb would be some improved ratio rocker arms. Ask your Vee shop about them.. I like the car! You have to be aware that if you...

Re: Zero Roll corner weights

Okay.. Just an update. After bolting on the new ball joint front, and scaling the car it was 10 lbs. heavy in the right front and left rear. It was determined that it had a 1" difference in wheelbase side-to-side.. Yikes. Put it on a flat table. Chalked the centerlines and discovered that the r...

Re: Need help - know nothing!

I will concurr with my fellow responders. However, once that is done, your next investment should be for real race tires. They will make a huge improvement in times. As a matter of fact, they might do more than the other improvements mentioned. I would like others to chime in.. They alone could be w...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

Just a couple of comments, again. The rules state that the firewall only has to be 25" tall. Are you sure that you want that extra height behind you acting as an air brake? Also, you are aware that if you autocross that car it will have to run in A/mod, aren't you? That's because the cc limit w...

Re: Zero Roll corner weights

Guys, Thanks for the input. First of all, a friend loaned me the scales... Secondly, after wrenching on everthing for hours today, I realized that stiction has a lot to do with it but still could not get the balance I thought I would see. Finally, I checked the wheelbase, since I had bolted on...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

Hey, Just a quick comment, I believe I had read somewhere that although it would seem that a front mount on a VW motor is a good idea, it can be determental to it. I can't remember exactly why but it might have to do with expansion of the components due to the high temps of an air cooled motor. Lock...

Zero Roll corner weights

Okay. Why are my front left and right weights not equal since the zero roll can be thought of as a three-legged stool? And the rear weights are not equal right to left either. There is actually a distance between the rear uprights so I figured that adjusting the bars from the bell cranks to the axle...

More Better dumb question??

If one put coil overs on the front end of a zero-roll vee, would it be possible to corner balance the chassis? Or is it that the old three-legged stool rule still applies??? I'm thinking it makes no difference, right?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Aluminum Case

Mike, I agree that you do not want an aluminum one. They are about 8lbs. heavier if I recall correctly and there are some issues that can occur with the oil hole at the pump. I had one one and could not get oil pressure. It was finally discovered that the hole is deeper in the case at the pump and t...

Re: Winter projects???

Lynn, I was at about 1010-1015 with a thin T6 aluminum pan under it and my body weight at 185lbs. You can figure that was about 825lbs minus me and the belly pan. I don't know what is on it now but Mark was going to add a 1/8" steel plate which would have made up the 40 lbs of driver difference...

Re: Winter projects???

Lynn, I remember that Mark was going to stiffen up the torsional ridgidity of the chassis by installing a thicker pan. He was some 40 lbs. lighter than me at that time and could afford it. Unfortunately, his welder installed the unit with one long weld and did not stitch weld it into place. This cau...

Re: Winter projects???

Lynn, I hope Marks' life changes were for the good. Did you get the belly pan issue fixed that was caused by the his welder's installation? That is a good car and has run in the top 3 at nationals. I would only say that the Zink needs supplemental cooling to the heads during the summer because they ...

Re: Winter projects???

Lynn, What Zink? Did you buy my old one from Mark? I notice that you list a 71 C4. If so, I bought that thing from a guy in Louisville, Ky. back around '97 or so. He did not have a logbook for it. The only thing that remains from the original car is the chassis and that has had some modifications. W...
