Re: Tail aerodynamics?

The one thing I can guarantee, that if you use an undertail, you will spend a lot of your time cleaning it .... or your car will look really scuzzy. You will have to worry about tech people and grid people seeing all the mess coming out of your engine/tranny compartment, and looking closer. I had a ...

Re: Spec Tires

I agree that we should contact Hoosier on new development, but what is in it for them? Will they sell more tires? Will their profit margins increase? Even if we don't implement or even further investigate a spec tire we should as a class (single voice) develop a relationship with Hoosier as partner...

Re: Spec Tires

Oh come on Mark. Let's compare engine budgets to F1 while we're at it. Tire manufacturers aren't idiots, neither are all of us. Spec tires are created or chosen depending on the class fundamentals and the objectives for having a spec tire. Tiago's response would be typical of what most rational ind...

Re: Spec Tires

Ignorance then arrogance. In the modern world, virtually every form of racing uses a spec tire. SCCA club racing is the exception. While this may be necassary in some classes because of different cars and tire availability, it certainly is not necassary in many of the classes with very restricted ru...

Re: Spec Tires

I do agree with Greg that those in favor should write the CRB and express frustration that they did not at least ask for member input and instead just dismissed our request. I never said that. The CRB does not give a damn. I said "write the BOD and demand that SCCA let FV select a spec tire an...

Re: Spec Tires

You guys are making it way too difficult. With the Pro 1600 series, they equalized Honda engines and intoduced an awesome spec FF tire .... seemingly overnight ..... something that the SCCA system still cannot do. Because they just did it. They had engines tested on an engine dyno. They had Bruce (H...

Re: Spec Tires

So my attempts at keeping some reality in the process is fear mongering? You point to the spec tire in the FF1600 and FF2000 series. How many race weekends are the front runners putting on a set of those "spec tires"? If they have a spec tire, why aren't they running 5 races on a set? How...

Re: Spec Tires

IF...and it's a big IF, you were given the task of finding a tire for us with that simplistic attitude, I would be scared to death of the results. There is that fear-mongering again. Ooooooooooooo ..... Hoosier and Goodyear will screw it up for us .... either by their incompetance ..... or because ...

Re: Spec Tires

A partial or regional or divisional spec tire program just forces people to choose sides. If the FV community gives me authority, I will negotiate with suppliers, test tires at my expense, and deliver a spec tire program to SCCA by Oct 1, 2012. There would be no charge to SCCA or anybody else. I wo...

Re: Spec Tires

The only thing stopping spec FV tires in SCCA is negative people. NO... The only thing stopping the implementation of a spec tire program is your lack of action. You are all talk and no work. If you want a spec tire program organize the NE Division. Brian A partial or regional or divisional spec ti...

Re: Spec Tires

WTF is this gentleman's agreement you're talking about? If anybody would shave tires, it would be our team. We don't because it would be a waste of time. Our car's have every legal trick that I think is worth bothering with. Because I care, I've worked with other people that care, to put rules in pl...

Re: Spec Tires

Greg, As much as I share your passion for a "spec tire" and appreciate your efforts to get it considered, I was really disappointed by the way our, meaning the FV class in general had their survey responded to by the board. Many people (+200) responded to the survey, either for or against...

Re: Spec Tires

As suggested in my previous response, we need a single person to make a deal with someone, NOW! ASAP! We should just give someone that responsibility. Give them the support to spend that 5 mins and move this forward. I personally do not care who as long as they are not a current tire dealer. Michael...

Re: Spec Tires

Hoosier makes all kind of spec tires for many classes including FF, CF, and FST. As pointed out here many times, it is not necassary that we select an existing tire. The experts at Hoosier (or Goodyear) could revise their spec in 5 mins to take off 2% of performamnce and add x% durability, or 3% per...

Re: Spec Tires

Quick decision? Canadian FV racers realized that open tires on FV was a stupid idea in the 70s when it became apparent that buying tires every weekend was the thing to do. By 1980, they had found a suitable tire and wheel, tested them, and made them mandatory for 1981. That was over 30 years ago. No...

Brian says to write the CRB and ask them to reconsider. Follow the system. Well, the system has failed FV. We need the BOD to step in and get things done. ASAP! NOW! No time to waste! Write the BOD and demand action!

Re: Spec Tires

I don't listen to quitters or people trying to sabatoge FV revival. If the hundred or so remaining active FV drivers banded together and demanded it happen, it would happen pretty damn quick. Instead, we let a few vocal people sabatoge every positive effort made to benefit the FV community, while cl...

Re: Spec Tires

The only conclusion that can be reached from these actions are that SCCA and the CRB are trying to hasten the demise of this wonderful class that has survived 50 years. It needs help. There are very few ways to provide that help. Refusing to acknowledge and explore the one obvious tool that can help...

Spec Tires

As an FYI, the last FasTrack posted the announcement that a spec tire for FV would not be considered by the CRB despite the survey conducted by the Committee with over 70% of the respondents in favor of some form of spec tire. As an SCCA member and representative of the Committee, Bruce Livermore wr...

Re: Brake shoes

Most FV old-timers have a stache of both style adjusters. I generally buy shoes that are most available and least expensive. Because my grinder is usually easier to find than my adjuster stache, I usually just shape the shoe ends to suit. Even when you get the right shoes, you usually need a grinder...
