Re: Pre-race Checklist / Torque Specs

Check ebaymotors "formula v" for a very good prerace checklist and book. Does not have specific vee torques but, other general things to check.

Re: Last words in passing

I got my novice permit when I was 56 years old. Now, I have my National ticket and could not be happier. Someone has to run last but, at least I get to run. In CFR we had a problem with mixed classes (I had a real problem last February at Sebring). Now, we run fast wings and things and slow wings an...

Re: wanted amb transponder

For what it is worth. We bought a car with a hard wired AMB transponder and called the gentleman who owned it. He contacted mylaps and we inherited all his times from all his events.

Re: oil filter location

Just be careful with the oil lines. DO NOT REVERSE THEM! I did and did two laps and a tow truck ride at Daytona.

I plan on getting my national license this February and continue to race. My son will continue to race regionally. Same car for now, both cars when we get the Zink rebuilt.

Re: Engine Removal...easy question!

Be sure to label which oil line goes where. I didn't and enjoyed 2 laps and a tow truck ride at Daytona one time.

paint or not

We just pulled our headers off because we bought a "new" collector. The collector has been sand-blasted to a pretty finish. The headers are intact but, rusty. Before we put them back on the car, we would like to hear some opinions on different treatments of the outside surrace of the heade...

Re: erratic engine

Thanks for all the suggestions. A course in "crew chiefing" would help most, I think. We raced at Sebring this past weekend. Completed most of the sessions. Ran into a braking problem and fixed the dry rear master cylinder by filling it up. Will look for possible leak before the Turkey Tro...

Re: erratic engine

I think my crew chief needs to learn how to do mechanicing. We replaced spark plug wires, coil, fuel pump and battery and had a really nice weekend at Daytona. The beach was nice, we found an Italian restaurant that we thought was closed, the weather was perfect and everybody had a good time. We jus...

We wasted our flat 4 into 1 collector at Daytona. Repairs have been made but, we would like another collector. We have a 1979 Vista Bushwacker w/ zero roll suspension and a tight budget. Suggestions?

Re: erratic engine

I think the biggest problem was the timing marks on the pulley. I think I timed it at 3000 rpm square on number one at TDC. So timing ended up retarded by 30 degrees or so. One of the marks was crystal clear and the other one had a black mark on it. I chose the unmarked one and timed the engine at 3...

erratic engine

This weekend at Daytona we encountered what seems to be an unusual situation. Car was prepped and "ready to go." (unfortunately by me) We made the practice session. Could only get engine to 5k rpm on backstretch and tri-oval. We (I) had just recently timed the distributor @ 3000 rpm approx...

Re: EGT

Thanks. Now that I know about EGT, is there a temperature that indicates a too hot condition that would lead to things like burned pistons, melted rings and such?

EGT

What does EGT actually tell me? What is a reasonable EGT? How hot can I run an FV without burning a hole in the piston? What other info do I need to know to make my EGT useful? Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: First Autocross

Not sure if you had an instructor? But, if you did what the instructor said about going slower to go faster makes a BIG difference. Vees are very light and are prone to spinning at the drop of a hat. Next time, go on practice day and work on precision and "entry" and "line" issue...

I like Sebring and Daytona. CFR offers solo2 events in Brooksville and Deland and other places. Go to cfrscca.org and check out club racing and solo info. June 7 and 8 cfr will be running short course at Sebring and August 9 and 10 we will be at Daytona.

Transmissions one more time

Is there a way to determine what 3rd gear a transmission has without turning the wheels (tranny is not in car) or tearing the trans apart?
Thanks

Transmission rx

Our transmission (and vee) took a hit from a spec racer ford and is pretty close to destroyed. One axle shaft and wheel was competely removed by the first srf to hit me, the left one is still intact. When we were taking the car apart to start a rebuild (it is a 1976 zink z-12 and will need more than...

Zink Z-12 build data

Does anyone have the original build data for a 1976 Zink Z-12? An SRF collected me at full speed coming out of turn 17 at Sebring this weekend. I was outside 17 entering the turn and my throttle cable broke, so I stay well outside, asuming the flaggers would go white and/or yellow. I decided NOT to ...
