Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
Art, I think the two stroke CVT combination will always have an advantage for the first 150 to 200 feet. I don't think the MC engined cars will ever be able to make it up. Arthur, the four proposed engines are Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. Several car have been or are being built with the Suzu...

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
The current proposed rules require the 600's to use 29mm individual inlet restrictors. 27.5mm restrictors were tried, but the cars were way too slow with them.dd46637 wrote:Right between 100 -110 stock, with the stock exhaust and no toys like a power comander.77fmod wrote:What is the HP of a top 600cc MC engine?

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
Were there any changes mentioned of our cars? JB No. The proposal is really for Club Racing. Some of the F500 guys are concerned about the lack of new two stroke engines and about the lack of growth of the F500 class. The allowance of motorcycle engines is believed by some of the F5 guys to be reme...

Re: 600 cc MC engines in F Mod
My thought is the two strokes will kick their butts. Might be a different story without the IIR's, but I don't think so. The events will sound better, though.
Re: F500 mods
Johnny, that picture was taken at the Blytheville NT two weeks ago. Has the car been modified since then?
Re: F500 mods
The cars we are talking about have the side pods and most of the impact protection. They are cutting out the body work.

Re: F500 mods
No, they are not trying to reduce weight. They are creating more arm and shoulder room need for autocrossing but not needed for road racing.
Since they are supposed to be GCR legal cars, the modifications don't appear to be legal to me.

Re: Blytheville National Tour
The proper line in that turn is to have the entire car to the left of the line. If the picture had been taken just a bit soon, I would have been to the left of the chalk. I ran first heat, so the chalk was still there. There was no chalk by the end of the day.

Re: Clutch won't stay adjusted
In the 70's, I pushed more stock cars with welded spider gears through more pit areas than I care to remember. Even though the Vee is almost 3000 lbs lighter than some those cars, I think I'll go with the LSD. My solo vee has 109 hp at the wheels according to the SRacing chassis dyno. And it has low...

Re: Clutch won't stay adjusted
Brian, it is a zero roll car. It did have a rear anti-roll bar but that has been removed. The solo rules allow limited slip differentials, so I'll be buying one soon.

Re: Clutch won't stay adjusted
Thanks for all the replies, gentlemen. I did check out most of your suggestions, but it turns out that the only problems were the slave cylinder need to be bled and I was adjusting it the wrong way. It worked fine at the National Tour this weekend. Now, I just have to fix the problem of spinn...

Re: wider wheels ?
No, they're not the same. The 1937 Ford wide 5 used in circle track is 10.25 inches = 260.35 millimeters. The VW wide 5 is 205mm. As a rule of thumb, if you can stick your head through the wheel it is a Ford wide 5. If your head gets stuck in the wheel, it's a VW.

Re: Minimum Weight Survey
Greg, unless I'm mistaken, my vee would fit in the trunk of a typical oval car. They often use tons of lead shot in pockets located in the gigantic square frame rails but it would be tough to put panels inside our frames and I don't think having the lead loose would be very nice either. I could add...

Re: My Formula Vee..
Back in the 60's, Carroll Shelby had a factory Cobra autocross/gymkhana team. Bruce Meyers, creator of the Meyers Manx dune buggy, started his own team. Much to Mr. Shelby's great chagrin, the Manx' usually beat the Cobras. The cutting brakes on the buggies were a huge advantage on tight courses.

Re: wider wheels ?
Rich, it might be helpful to calculate your speed in each gear. Remember, we launch in second and make most of the run in third. Third should be good for 65 to 70 mph.

Re: wider wheels ?
The backspacing on the wheels I use are 5" front and 7" rear. As Dan says, it depends on your brakes and suspension. When I converted to disc brakes, I had a lot of problems on getting the rear brakes to fit under the wheels and a smaller problem with the fronts. I spent thousands. I proba...

It is VW's current, and IMO stupid, advertising campaign. It is base on some equally stupid game where people punch each other when they see some specified item.

Clutch won't stay adjusted
I have a CNC slave cylinder on my Solo Vee. It will not stay adjusted. I can get it adjusted with good pedal feel and it works great from the grid to the start, launch and shift to third. But by the time the run if finished, the clutch doesn't want to release. It takes some effort to get it out of t...

Re: Tight lipped bunch of buggers???
I've been out a few times this year. Our first event was cold and wet so the car stayed in the shop. The second event was the fuel pump failure. The Midiv at Neosho, MO was very, very wet on Saturday. There were several rivers 3 to 4 inches deep. The car stayed in the trailer. Vern took one run and ...

Re: wider wheels ?
Some of our F500 brethren feel we could be faster narrower tires and wheels because we could get more heat into them quicker. I've thought about trying that.

We use Weber IDF carbs, mostly. 1915's use one, 1600's are allowed two.
I'd really like to use fuel injection, but that will probably never happen.

Brian Harmer has already responded to my email. Electric fuel pumps are not legal for Solo Vees. I will be writing to the SEB for a change to allow them.

Re: Electric fuel pumps.
I am going to write a letter to Doug and Brian and ask if electric fuel pumps are allowed for Solo Vee since they are allowed for FST's running in FM.
