Re: Zero Roll damping theory??

This is definitely a controversial subject. You may want to check out some previous threads. The bottom line is that there is lateral weight transfer at both the front and rear even with the zero roll resistance rear end. However, because of the zero roll resistance rear suspension, the anti-roll po...

Re: Doubling up FV's in a 20' Trailer

Thanks for catching that mistake. The sad thing is that I looked it up to make sure. I saw 127 in the GCR and then proceeded to write it wrong.

Re: Doubling up FV's in a 20' Trailer

The cars fit in just under 18 feet end to end. Are you sure it's that long? It looks/seems from the pictures like it should be shorter. Our cars are only 10' 7" long (127") at most, so two cars nose to tail would be 21' 2". It seems like you have more than a 3' 2" overlap, but p...

Mine regional license was exactly a 3 week turnaround from when I sent it out. I just got it on Monday.

What's the hard card really going to do to speedup the registration? It apparently saves us one signature. Anything else?

Re: New manifold rules in GCR

John, 100LL Aviation fuel (AV gas) has always been 100% compliant (and popular) with the exception of fuel controlled events (Runoffs, ect). I think the stuff your referencing in your example is C-44 (aka rocket fuel). C-44 is currently priced around $50 per gallon and because of that, not very pop...

Re: New manifold rules in GCR

The question is do you do it "because everyone is doing it", or do you follow "the intent of the rule". Everyone has to decide for themselves. Everyone is breaking the "spirit" and "in doubt, don't" rules on some level. Good points - both are right. An exampl...

I'm going to try to walk the fence here and not take sides. I'm also not arguing for or against Chris' or Brian's recent posts, and expect I'll end up supporting both to a large degree by the time I'm done. There have been many excellent points in this thread, and I've been enlightened and had chang...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?

I couldn't agree more with everything Jim said, and I couldn't have said it myself better (no surprise there). If the class wants to pursue a major change such as a spec anything or any significant change, to minimize the griping, which will always happen when people are involved, and maximize the g...

Re: 1970 Lynx vee

Dietmar is right, if that's all you have to mount your engine and transmision are the bolts at the bottom of the bell housing, the whole assembly will rock back and forth. It can be bad enough to pop it out of gear, which I've experienced. I'd be concerned that it would eventually form cracks near t...

Re: Why is the Sky Blue?

I also believe that there would need to be a significant restriction to make sure that the plate is the dominant limiter to air flow. With Vees already being the slowest cars on the field, I'd be concerned with us being even slower than the other classes we run with and that the increased speed diff...

Re: Zero Roll corner weights

Robert is right, aside from stiction and a tilted floor, only an uncentered weight will cause a difference in weight from side to side in a zero roll resistance Vee. This is true in the front or the rear. The starter can cause this, for example. You might want to swap the scales from side to side to...

Bruce, I was saying that using the headers to cool the heads would have the opposite effect of wrapping the headers where you were trying to keep the headers hot. We're in agreement. John

Re: My new exhaust

Charles, how about adding in something like those old motorcycle heat sinks on the header flange? But, something more modern in looks and function. That, and making sure the header seats well onto the head so that you maximize the thermal conduction. Agreed, everything helps. John

Re: My new exhaust

I have read, but have no definitive data, that black paint on the exhaust allows more heat to escape, lowering head temps. Yes, that would be true that the black would radiate more heat off the headers. I'm not sure it would make a measurable difference on the head temperature, though. I guess we c...

Re: Extended sump question

Jim, thanks. Those helped me understand the trap door concept much better. It seems like the idea is to keep the oil that wants to flow up due to cornering near the pickup, so that it doesn't flow away from the pickup on it way up. In some sense, our reduced 3.3" diameter hole sort of does that...

Re: Extended sump question

Same principle as the surge tank in most factory EFI fuel tanks that keeps the fuel from sloshing away from the pump pickup when the level is low. Alternatively, if there is enough space in the sump to work with, you could install swinging trap doors like some of the road race V-8 oil pans use. MAt...

As far as I am concerned as long as part of the silly circled vw is there you should be good to go. Perhaps this is sufficient. Let's recommend this to the boards - it needs to be stated in the rules. But frankly you bring up another very good point which I would like our class to work on. Very few...
